Asst Director-Engineering

What You'll Do

We're looking for an Assistant Director of Engineering to lead our Cloud Financial Management practice within our Information Services Cloud Operating Model. In this role you will lead, mature and support the Cloud FinOps strategy in alignment with Principal's enterprise modernization strategy, strategic imperatives, and objectives.

Your day could look like this:

• Lead the FinOps team to establish and mature the practices and drive outcomes while collaborating with business and technology teams.
• Create, refine, and prioritize backlog items for engineering teams and act as the voice of the customer with acceptance of completed work.
• Drive the selection of features through prioritization of the product backlog, monitor value delivery on the way to completion.
• Build strong partnerships across enterprise teams. Garner support, trust, and engagement for teams to proactively overcome barriers to stay aligned with the strategy.
• Empower your team to own solutions being crafted versus directing what needs to be done and how it should work.
• Challenge status quo, encourage innovation, be forward-thinking and approachable. Influence, lead and collaborate well with all partners.
• Encourage and bring diverse views together to solve problems in an innovative way.

Who You Are

• You have a Bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field) or equivalent experience, plus 8+ years of relevant experience.
• You are comfortable not having all the answers and confident that leadership will support you in maturing the process over time.
• You are curious and open to learning.

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

• 4+ years of leadership experience

• Cloud cost management experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding across technology areas

• Infrastructure Services including Compute, Storage, Network, OS
• Cloud IaaS, PaaS
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ITSM processes including Capacity Planning & Performance Management, Configuration Management, and Asset Management
• General finance and accounting concepts, principles, acumen

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$137000 - $185000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office or hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) from our Des Moines, Iowa headquarters.
