Atlas Manipulation Intern

• This internship is for the summer of 2024, in Boston Dynamics's main office in Waltham, MA.

Are you passionate about robots, manipulation? The Atlas R&D team is seeking an intern to support the development of new manipulation capabilities on Atlas, our humanoid robot. As a manipulation intern, you will join a world-class team of engineers and scientists focused on creating robust mobile manipulation skills for Atlas. This internship will be focused on exploring techniques to improve generality and data efficiency in behavior cloning for manipulation. You'll take on a research project mentored by one of our senior research scientists with the expectation to deliver results onto hardware. Responsibilities will include participating in project ideation, implementing your ideas in our existing codebase, working with the Atlas team to deploy your behaviors both in simulation and on hardware.

How you will make an impact:

• Creatively apply combinations of control, machine learning, imitation and simulation to solve real-world bimanual manipulation problems.
• Write high-quality (documented, tested, maintainable) Python and C++ code
• Lead design reviews and collaborate closely with members of the Atlas software team.
• Deploy and debug your code on Atlas, Spot and other BD robots.

Required skills:

• Actively pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and debug skills.
• Experience with common ML tools, architectures, and workflows
• Experience training and deploying learned models to create complex behaviors.

Nice to have:

• Experience in robotic manipulation.
• Experience with behavior cloning for sensorimotor control / across multiple data sources / across robot embodiments.
• Experience with linux systems and developer workflows.
• Experience working with and contributing to large codebases.
