Qualifications
You must be a graduate of a school of law with an LLB or JD accredited by the American Bar Association and be an active member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
NOTE: You must submit with your application a proof showing you are an active member of the Bar in good standing and a copy of your law school transcripts.
You must also meet the Specialized Experience Requirement:
In order to qualify for the GS-15 grade level, you must possess at least three years of specialized experience in managing or supervising other employees performing legal work.
In addition, you must have at least two years of specialized experience in any two of the following areas. The experience must have beenacquired after being admitted to the Bar, at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in Federal service. The minimum two years of specialized experience in the following practice areas does not have to be in addition to the three years of supervisory experience. The two experiences can overlap in years:
1) Providing legal advice and services on grant requirements and resolving complex questions of law related to grant-making functions;
2) Providing legal guidance on the full range of legal issues, including FOIA, ethics, employment law, and fiscal law; and,
3) Providing legal assistance in administrative law, transactions, and/or litigation.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the dates worked and total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
