Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal advice to the Director, Legal Services, United States Country Representative - United Kingdom (USCR-UK), the USCR-UK, US wing and installation commanders within the UK, as well as senior positions at Geographically Separated Units, their staffs, and other subordinate and tenant leadership positions in the highly specialized and professional fields.

- Attorney appointments are subject to serve a one-year probationary period.
- Candidates are not required to have active duty service or veteransβ preference to be referred and considered. All qualified candidates who meet the recruitment assessment criteria will be referred to the selecting official.
- Employee must adhere to the Air Force Rules of Professional Conduct
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance
- Employee may be required to work overtime
- Employee may be required to travel for temporary duty away from home station
- Employee may be required to file an Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Form 450 Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and annually thereafter
- Mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force wide mobility agreement
- May be assigned other duties not described in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee
Qualifications
- You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
- In addition, at the time of application, you must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of "active" status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. On-line information is allowed as long as it shows that you are in "active" status.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable rules, instructions, policies, regulations governing international treaties and agreements, and environmental law. Knowledge of difficult legal or factual questions pertaining to international and environmental law.
- Knowledge of rules, instructions, policies, regulations governing civilian personnel law. Knowledge of BEO rules and procedures in discrimination complaint cases.
- Knowledge of legal assistance program rules and responsibilities. Knowledge of the requirements, rules, and procedures of government contracts.
- Ability to interpret, understand, and render opinions regarding government contract information. Ability to draft a variety of legal documents for clients/customers.
- Ability to express ideas, opinions, and thoughts both orally and in writing. Ability to participate in training sessions and/or present information on areas of expertise.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Conditions of Employment:
- Employee must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
- In view of the novelty, variety, complexity and obvious importance of the legal issues which incumbent is called upon to resolve, the incumbent must not only be a member in good standing of a US State Bar or equivalent host nation Bar Association, but must also, over and above the normal qualifications of an attorney-at-law, possess legal training, extensive experience and high attainment in the specialized fields of national, international, and comparative law, Conflicts of Law, environmental law, health and safety law (both US and international), and Military Jurisprudence
Education
Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. The attorney must maintain such bar membership in at least one jurisdiction during the entire course of employment with the Air Force.
