Job Description
Reality Labs Research (RL-R), the research division for Augmented and Virtual Reality at Meta, is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated HW Automation Engineer. Come work alongside expert engineers and research scientists to create the technologies that will make AR and VR pervasive and universal. As an Engineer on the Hardware Automation team, you will bring together hardware and software systems and develop methodologies for state-of-the-art mechatronic systems and research prototypes. You will be on a team responsible for planning, development, bring-up, and troubleshooting of innovative hardware systems, custom software solutions and highly sophisticated tools.
Required Skills
Automation Engineer Responsibilities:
- Work with cross functional teams of engineers and research scientists to define, architect, design, and drive implementation of scalable test infrastructure.
- Own execution, interpretation, and reporting of component/system/sensor characterization results.
- Develop reusable code libraries for communicating with test instrumentation, characterizing custom components, calibrating systems, and driving custom mechatronic test beds.
- Design and implement novel solutions to automate research experiments. This may include custom test scripts, HW selection, algorithm development, GUI development, calibration routines, etc.
- Create wiring diagrams, procedural documentation, debug guides and validation reports for the systems that you own.
- Evaluate test results, identify trends, ensure adequate test coverage and system stability.
- Participate in electrical, mechanical and/or software design reviews
- Clearly communicate implementation plans and results.
Minimum Qualification
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in EE, CS, Physics or similar
- 5+ years' experience in test software development using NI LabVIEW, C# or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a highly cross-functional team environment
- Familiarity with VISA, SCPI and other common communication protocols used by test equipment
Preferred Qualification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of sensor characterization and calibration technologies and equipment including temperature chamber, vacuum chamber, shaker table, rate table, scanning laser vibrometer, bend and torsion tester, etc.
- Experience with test and characterization of opto-electrical systems and equipment including SMUs, photodiodes, integrating spheres, LIV interpretation, etc.
- Experience with scripting environments such as Python, MATLAB, or equivalent.
- Experience with Machine Vision, Motion control, high speed or real-time DAQ, HW triggering, etc.
- Understanding of concurrency, race conditions, and synchronization primitiv
- Understanding of basic electrical concepts and common bus protocols (I2C, SPI, etc.)
- Familiarity with electrical test methodologies and test equipment
- EM/multi-physics modeling of pulsed light sources
