What You Will Contribute:
This individual will play a key part in Badger Meter's continuous improvement journey by learning about, sustaining, and developing automation and control systems related to water meter assembly and test processes. This individual will work alongside other departments to develop automation plans that align with the business goals. The individual will revise and/or replace existing technology so that it requires less human interaction. Badger's automated testing equipment plays a critical role in ensuring product quality. The main functions of this role are to support existing equipment, optimize processes, and develop new test systems. This role requires regular visits to our various manufacturing sites.
Job Duties:
- Drive growth through continuous improvement of test systems.
- Read, modify, and maintain control systems documentation.
- Read, modify, and maintain control systems code (C#, Allen Bradley PLC).
- Identify opportunities to increase efficiency. Research, Design and Implement automation technology including pumps, VFD's, valves, various sensors, plant network communications, machine network design, safety devices, pneumatics, etc.
- Create a connection between information inputs, controllers and outputs.
- Assist with sustaining engineering - troubleshoot equipment issues, drive good maintenance practices of equipment.
- Research and integrate safe, reliable and cost effective equipment and processes that assure the production of products at established safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives
- Advise NPD and Sustaining functions regarding test system improvements and modifications.
- Participate in developing financial analysis and justification of new processes and equipment and initiate capital asset requests for equipment.
- Interface with various vendors to quote, support, and implement test systems.
- Develop tests and simulations to ensure the automation works as intended.
- Establish monitoring, diagnostic and QA processes.
- Up to 15% travel required
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a similar field required
- 3 + years of experience in a related field; Experience with automation and control required
Qualifications:
- Strong problem solving skills
- Solid foundation of Engineering fundamenta
- Strong background with automated manufacturing controls and computer systems
- Strong background with C#
- Experience with PLC programming
- Willingness to travel domestic and international, sometimes on short (1-3 days) notice
- Ability to understand complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Spanish language experience is a plus
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma preferred
- Metrology experience preferred
