Automation Hardware Engineer

What You'll Do
You will design, develop, and improve complex electromechanical assemblies, tooling, and machines for highly automated manufacturing platforms to be used in the production of Cisco's Silicon Photonics Integrated Circuits and chipsets. As a key member of the platform development team that is responsible for developing critical optical components, processes, and tools, you will be responsible for designing/re-designing specialized electromechanical/optical assemblies at the heart of Cisco's wafer and panel scale optical packaging platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead design efforts (internal and external) for new automated assembly tools with support of process area experts
• Gather and analyze data from Cisco's automated packaging tools/processes to shape new projects targeting improvement in novel subassemblies used in Cisco-designed high-volume manufacturing platforms
• Design, build, and test protypes of critical, complex electromechanical assemblies to be used in automated manufacturing tools
• Recommend and implement test/assembly/process improvements, including cycle time reduction and automation of system to minimize required operator time and intervention

Who You'll Work With
You will be working with the engineering team responsible for development of the Luxtera/Cisco high-volume silicon photonics platform. You will be part of a dynamic technology development team that works to design core processes and tools as part of Cisco's in-house developed silicon photonics manufacturing platform.
Who You Are
You are a mechanical engineer with experience in machine/tooling design and automation.
Minimum Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
• >3+ years' experience in mechanical design
• Proficient using SolidWorks for mechanical design and modeling

Preferred:

• Experience with robotic systems and precision motion stages, voice coils, pneumatic grippers, etc.
• Experience with electronic and or micro/fiber-optic packaging
• Experience with automation techniques for small part handling including miniature grippers, vacuum pick tooling, electrical probing, etc.
