Position Summary
Harbinger Oncology is seeking a highly motivated, talented and detail-oriented Automation Hardware Engineer to join our automation engineering team to support research & clinical laboratories. The successful candidate will be the subject matter expert on all laboratory automation hardware platforms we are building out at Harbinger. This candidate will be first line of defense in providing support and troubleshooting together with automation team to the clinical laboratory staff running the automated assay. Will develop and run monthly QCs to ensure instrument’s spec performance, IQ/OQ standards. Will work with vendors and quality team to oversee instrument’s reliability, up time and high operational quality. During periods of increased sample demand, mid-shift coverage might be requested.
Key responsibilities
- Act as first line of defense for automation support and troubleshooting needs.
- Train medical technologists on robotic systems and oversee proper use & compliance.
- Assist with writing and updating automation SOPs.
- Develop the methodology and routinely perform QC on liquid handling platforms to ensure proper instrument performance.
- In collaboration with automation and process development engineers, contribute to optimization of screening assays developed on automated platforms.
- Provide input and operationalize process-driven improvements to automated workflows.
- Continually seek out new technologies/instruments to aid in workflow optimization.
Qualifications
- BS, MS in Engineering discipline (Bio, Biomedical or Mechanical) or Biology.
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with running, designing, programming, validating and implementing into production of laboratory liquid handling methods to increase throughput, accuracy and true walk-away automation.
- Experience running and automating in-vitro, cell-based and/or diagnostic assays.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter who continuously seeks to improve existing laboratory methods and processes.
- Ability to work independently, as well as a part of the team.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Hamilton liquid handling platforms, Precise robotic arm, SPT comPOUND, HST VersoQ20Â is preferred.
- Understanding of LIMS & database structures.
