Job Description
Officer position responsible for functional and strategic direction as well operational execution of the Bureau Statistical Reporting and the State Reporting teams. This role supports CNA's Actuarial department providing data compliance and strategic business needs through coordination across CNA business communities and external regulatory partners. The role ensures efficient and effective governance, operational process flows and functional support for Actuarial Data core and strategic objectives.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Bureau Reporting for data required by statistical agents which include; Insurance Services Office (ISO); The Surety & Fidelity Association of America (SFAA);Massachusetts Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers (MASS CAR)
- State Reporting team which is responsible for mandatory statistical reporting required by the federal government as well as state departments of insurance, departments of labor and industry and various other state regulatory agencies, and Workers' Compensation Financial Data Calls.
- Act as owner/advisor for the following: Commercial Lines Premium and Loss data reported according to the Commercial Statistical Plan requirements; Independent program status
- data fields reported in compliance with the Commercial Statistical Plan requirements, Proprietary rates / rules / forms (non-ISO) used and Non-Bureau program status data
- Provide accurate data on timely basis to Regulatory bodies (for example, Departments of Insurance, Revenue Cabinets, State Funds) which are responsible for ensuring that insurance companies operate in compliance with insurance laws. Accordingly, insurance companies are required to report data about their operations in order for the regulatory body to assess performance in areas including fair business practices, consumer protection and rate development. Inaccurate or late reporting may lead to disciplinary actions including fines, penalties, sanctions and / or loss of licenses.
- Subject matter expertise in the following areas: Premium/Policy Detail Reports, Claim Experience Reports, Market Conduct Exams, Audits - DOI/Regulatory Bureau Audits,
- Federal/State/Local reports which are required on a regular basis.
- Act as influential advocate for CNA-wide Actuarial Data for Underwriting/Claim/Financial/ERM/Reinsurance community to ensure efficiency of end-to-end processes with consideration for timeliness, accuracy, and risk mitigation to allow for Actuarial reporting capabilities.
- Lead staff with accountability and an emphasis on excellence in execution, talent management, and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
- Actively coordinate work with IT support, vendor partners. and business user community to understand business issues, troubleshoot problems, determine root causes, and identify cost effective solutions as they may arise.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Proven influential leadership, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to work effectively among all levels of internal/external partners/clients.
- Knowledge of technical systems framework including architecture, corporate coding, statistical plans promulgated by regulatory bodies, data relationships, allocations, and data aggregation of core NAIC financial requirements ( Statutory compliance).
- Strong people management skills across a broad scope of responsibility demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and people development focus.
- Proven ability to learn and adapt to new system applications/functions to allow for future process efficiencies and timely completion of external regulatory deliverables.
- Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
- Proven analytical and decision making skills, with strong customer service orientation.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors or Master's in related discipline, or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience, with minimum seven years leadership experience.
- Project leadership experience and expertise is preferred.
