Overview:
The Group Benefits organization is making significant investments and undergoing a technology-driven transformation over the next 4-5 years and this role will be critical to enabling / reimagining the data driven business processes in the future-state of the organization. Given the importance of data to the Group Benefits organization, the individual in this role will provide a strong business voice to IT and the EDO on the development of a target-state data ecosystem that will be built using cloud-native technologies. This target-state data environment will support the need for efficient and effective mechanisms to exchange data with partner organizations outside of the Hartford and to deliver data in an accurate and cost-effective manner for operational & analytical uses within GB.
This leader will develop the strategy and identify foundational capabilities for Group Benefits strategic data exchange needs. This involves developing a partnership and integration strategy with external HRIS and Benefits administration platforms (e.g. Workday, ADP), along with internal process redesign and technical leadership on how to collect, validate, store and leverage this data to maximize the efficiency and data quality of these data assets, and deliver superior customer experience as a result.
This leader will provide matrixed leadership for cross functional teams, and partner with IT, Enterprise Data Office, Business and Functional teams.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with prior exposure to data initiatives and external partnerships, and can provide strong leadership and guidance to a cross-functional team that will support and execute the data strategy and roadmap. This leader also has strong influencing skills vertically and horizontally and can inspire teams to drive toward a common vision and purpose.
Experience with agile practices (including applying agile at scale with a framework like Scaled Agile Framework) would be useful for the person in this role.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$158,000 - $237,000

Responsibilities:
- Directly manage a strategic data Value Stream to ensure initiatives are successfully executed and delivered on time, on budget, and with high quality.
- Build trusted partnerships with various stakeholders. Collaborate with business leaders, the CIO & EDO organizations, and the field sales team to develop a target-state data ecosystem that delivers strong business value to the operational and analytical teams across GB.
- Advise on the future business needs for how member data is consumed and utilized, which includes partnering to identify the training needs and strategy for GB functions to leverage the data.
- Develop strategy for and successfully manage relationships with multiple vendor partners, while evaluating the marketplace for future BenTech/InsurTech partnership opportunities.
- Create a high performing matrix team that has a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and is focused on business outcomes.
- Provide matrixed leadership, mentoring, and coaching to cross-functional team.
- Be a thought leader and organizational change agent who can help foster a data-driven culture while simplifying the data ecosystem and improving the organizational speed-to-insight.
- As needed, manage and coordinate strategic direction for staff. Attract, retain, develop, and motivate top talent. Conduct annual and mid-year reviews, reviewing individual development plans and providing performance feedback.
Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years of market experience, ideally in Group Benefits business
- Strong knowledge of data management strategies, practices, and principles
- Experience leading technology-oriented projects and vendor partnerships and integrations
- Experience in externally facing engagements and understanding market trends
- Experience in strategy development and operational process design
- Experience in agile efforts as product manager or value stream owner
- Ability to lead a large data-related portfolio that include transformational initiatives
- Ability to collaborate and partner with business leaders and IT/infrastructure teams
- Strong leadership and influencing skills at the senior management level
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organizational
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage teams made up of both employees and vendor partners that are located in multiple geographies
- Experience with cloud-based data-related platforms and open-source data related technologies is beneficial
- Bachelors degree or higher
- Demonstrate a willingness to challenge the status quo
- Demonstrate a bias for action
