The position is in within the R&R Risk team. The mission of the R&R Risk team is to oversee the operationalization of MIS's Risk management Strategy, Framework and Programs for the Ratings groups, as well as help enhance and standardize best practices across the Ratings and Research (R&R) organization at Moody's Investors Services. R&R Risk Management team is a small but growing global team acting as a risk management centre of excellence within R&R.

Role/Responsibilities

The AVP role will support the global Ratings & Research (R&R) business, in executing MIS's Risk strategy and embedding the Risk Framework. The AVP coordinates the risk issues and events, as well as the operationalization of the risk management standards. This role is responsible for 1st line of defence risk efforts with focus on ratings. R&R initiates, maintains, and provides opinion and research on all ratings produced by MIS, and the role requires a high level of interaction with R&R senior management, as well as rating teams more broadly, the 2nd line Risk team, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs and Internal Audit.

Responsibilities:

The AVP will be responsible for supporting the R&R Risk team in driving and overseeing continued implementation and embedding of the MIS Risk Program, specifically:

  • Monitoring the Risk Appetite for R&R and providing inputs into MIS Risk Policies, Standards and Taxonomy. Embedding the risk culture within MIS.
  • Risk & Control Assessments & Reporting: Facilitate Risk & Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) in line with MIS Standards, across R&R. Identify and evaluate risk themes and trends, consolidate the results of the Risk & Control self-assessments and report results to the R&R Leadership Team and appropriate Risk Management Committees. Lead the dynamic refresh of RCSAs, as well as annual reviews.
  • Issues and Events Management: Establish an issues and events management and control Framework within R&R, including escalation of past due issues per the MIS Standards, reviewing remediation plans for adequacy of actions to be performed and reporting on control weakness metrics and statistics. Provide oversight to ensure timely escalation and adequate root-cause analysis. Perform quality assurance reviews of issues documented within the global risk and control system (GRC).
  • Key Risk Indicators (KRIs): Work with process owners to develop metrics for key business risks within R&R. Aggregate and report on KRI results, identifying themes and trends. Monitor remediation actions for tolerance breaches.
  • Reporting: Work closely with MIS Risk to report and track risk issues in the GRC and support the business' risk reporting.
  • Risk Awareness: within R&R management broadly, establish and promote the use of the above risk-related tools, data and metrics to enable R&R risk-owners to take timely, informed risk decisions.
  • Compliance, Regulatory & Internal Audit liaison: work closely with Compliance / Regulatory / Internal Audit functions to ensure timely escalation and remediation of business risks, as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors or equivalent required
  • Experience: 7+ Years in Operational Risk Management with a financial institution OR 7+ years with management responsibilities, among one or more of the following disciplines: Internal Audit, Internal control, Management & Risk consulting
  • Preferably, deep understanding of operational risk frameworks and best practices having rolled out similar programs.
  • Master's degree or equivalent qualification preferred

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $ [ 129,200 ] to $ [ 187,400 ], depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
