THE ROLE
Luxury is a strategic growth division at Sotheby’s. It includes Jewelry, Watches, Wine & Spirits, Automobiles, Books, Science & Popular Culture, Fashion & Accessories, and is expanding beyond traditional auction to Private Sales and E-commerce.
The Senior Marketing Manager is responsible for contributing to the achievement of net sales and profit targets of the Specialist Departments, and development of the appropriate strategy, execution and evaluation of a marketing plan to support sourcing and sale promotion. It has oversight of the local execution of the traditional Luxury auctions, with the support of one direct report.
In addition, the role is responsible for both strategic initiatives that are headquartered in the Americas, such as integration with RM, Concierge, Buy Now, as well as support license agreements with SIR and the Sotheby’s Institute.
The ideal candidate is a highly trained marketing professional, fluent in brand management and passionate about the worlds of art and luxury. S/he must have strong managerial skills, ensuring that the team continuously strives for excellence and delivers ambitious, thoughtful and effective campaigns. At the same time, s/he must have the taste and judgment to ensure brilliant execution. The Senior Marketing Manager must also be a brilliant communicator, able to create a compelling presentation and deliver it with confidence and clarity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead relationships with business acquisitions and license agreements to deliver brand alignment (design, editorial style) as well as partnership on programming and events
- Partner with the specialist departments to build a compelling marketing calendar
- Support client cultivation and sourcing initiatives in the Americas through advertising and events
- Craft a robust plan and manage the execution of sale marketing for all auctions and selling exhibitions
- Ensure coherent and powerful execution across all touchpoints including creative, editorial and video, digital and social, co-ordinating the various functional teams
- Recommend resource allocation and monitor budgets, providing the maximum return on investment
- Build strong relationships with peers throughout the global Luxury division
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree
- 7+ years’ experience in brand and event marketing, gained in a consumer facing luxury retail or service business agency
- Passionate about luxury and knowledgeable about the entire ecosystem that supports it
- Leadership, communication and presentation skills
- Analytical, with creative problem-solving abilities
- Ambitious, savvy and entrepreneurial
- Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to reach out and engage with a broad range of colleagues and external partners
The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $75,000-$100,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
