AVP Solution Architect
Job Summary: The AVP, Solution Architect is responsible for the technical stewardship of multiple software development projects or programs. This experienced architect possesses the skills to make prompt decisions, lead a team of architects, and drive technical solutions. The Solution Architect must have a balanced mix of technical and business skills and will often coordinate with enterprise architects for strategic direction. He or she will ensure the Small Commercial organization remains aligned to enterprise IT strategy and will enable the consistent deployment of critical and strategic technologies originating from and supported by Enterprise Architecture.
The AVP, Solution Architect will have the ability to communicate complex ideas and issues in simple terms to project teams, external clients, and senior management. He or she will also need to deeply understand the business processes in order to create and communicate a cohesive vision of the unit's technology platform in support of its products and services. The successful candidate must have the ability to influence across the technology organization, actively participate in strategic planning and decision-making, and participate in the execution of complex technology initiatives and projects.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$167,600 - $251,400

Job Responsibilities:
- Build and integrate information and computer systems that meet specific needs, typically involving integration of the software and hardware that best meets the purpose defined by an internal or external client.
- Get involved in a project in the conceptual phase, when high-level requirements and feasibility are being discussed, and then remain involved till the end.
- Examine the current systems architecture, and work with business and technical staff to recommend solutions that result in more effective systems.
- Mentor and develop other solution architects.
- Ensure the execution of the vision by providing direction to software engineers and delivery leads on how to build the prescribed solution.
- Select the most appropriate technology for a problem, and balance architectural concerns of the project with the business considerations of the enterprise.
- Be the Lead Solution Architect for business initiatives, responsible for defining:
- How technology can be used to solve a given business problem
- Which framework, platform, or tech-stack that can be used to create a solution, and which patterns, methods and tools will be most effective and productive
- An application's user experience including UI, its core components / composable elements, and how they interact with each other
- Long-term scalability and maintainability
- Advantages and risks in third-party frameworks/platforms
- Develop a deep understanding of the SC/PL business and ability to dive deeply into technology issues.
- Exploit ability to understand implications of various architectural choices for the customer, for the Small Commercial business, and for the enterprise.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in application architecture and design, with a strong hold on associated patterns, processes and tools.
- Proven experience in engineering and software architecture design, including leadership of other architects
- Deep technical knowledge across various integration points
- Strong knowledge of various operating systems, databases and infrastructure technologies
- Experience with building, deploying, and supporting both cloud-native and IaaS-deployed cloud applications
- Experienced with DevSecOps & AIOps practices.
- Experienced with microservices or API-based integrations, including API gateways
- Minimum 5 years of experience in managing a solution architecture function
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field; Master of Science in Computer Science or related preferred
- Deep Agile expertise
- Expertise in mobile solutions including native and mobile web
