An overview of this role

The Pipeline Authoring team is focused on creating tools to help you create and manage your pipelines. The main areas we work on are the pipeline editor, the pipeline composition experience (i.e. CI Rules, etc.), and the pipeline graph.

This role will place you on the Pipeline Authoring backend team. A team of six backend engineers and two frontend engineers build and support the Pipeline Authoring experience within the Verify stage. Though you will be in the Pipeline Authoring group, alongside five other backend engineers, you have opportunities to work with other areas of Verify from time to time.

Some examples of our projects:

  • Pipeline simulation
  • Component Catalog project
  • Pipeline editor improvements

What you’ll do

  • Develop features and improvements to the GitLab product in a secure, well-tested, and performant way.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders within Engineering (Frontend, UX, etc.) to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance.
  • Solve technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
  • Recognize impediments to our efficiency as a team (“technical debt”), propose and implement solutions.
  • Ship small features and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members. Collaborate with the team on larger projects.

What you’ll bring

  • Significant professional experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Professional experience with CI/CD and CI/CD tooling.
  • Familiarity with Webhooks, Jira, Slack, and 3rd party integrations.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient for success in a remote and largely asynchronous work environment.
  • A user of modern DevOps platforms. (GitLab is a bonus.)
  • Comfort working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process.
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization.
  • Share our values, and work in accordance with those values.

About the team

The Pipeline Authoring team has a very unique setup that provides the opportunity to maintain core features of the product with newer and exciting areas. As the team continues over time, there will be a lot of opportunities to contribute to high-impact work, like performance improvements, scalability challenges, bug fixes, highly visible features within the organization, and increasing security. At the other end, we have the newly developed pipeline editor in which we work closely with product and UX to iterate on this area with all sorts of features and improvements.

Thanks to our Transparency value, you can see what we are working on on our Team page. You can even see our roadmap and listen to some of our meetings.
