Backend Staff Engineer, Core Business Platform

The Core Business Platform team is responsible for the APIs our customers interact with, including the underlying business capabilities our APIs deliver. Distributed healthcare data networks and exchanges are complex spaces to operate: standards and legislation are constantly evolving, data is becoming more available as interoperability standards become widely adopted, and new data providers are always coming online. Demand is increasing from our customers to build easy-to-use abstractions on top a fragmented data network. The Core Business Platform team leads the way in this space.

As a member of this team, you’ll report directly to our Head of Engineering, and you’ll make decisions that have a significant impact on Particle Health’s business. You’ll own the technical direction of key systems that advances and differentiates our product while strengthening our position as a leading health data interoperability platform.

We’re looking for someone that is as comfortable designing the underpinning cloud infrastructure solutions as they are building software platforms that sit atop them. It’s just as important that you see yourself as a mentor, developing the next generation of Senior Software Engineers and Engineering Leaders.

• Lead conversations with other Software Engineers, partnering with them to make informed design decisions and set direction of important technology systems.
• Scope, design, and build platforms that many teams will adopt and integrate with. You’ll choose the Google Cloud products that fit the problem space best, while also building the application tier alongside other Software Engineers.
• Build developer tooling that improves the Developer Experience for the platforms you own, including smooth local development environments through continuous delivery.
• Prioritize healthcare data interoperability, enabling Particle Health’s customers to integrate with our API platform quickly, shortening the time between singing a contract and getting to value for their patients.
• Work with a cross-functional group of Software Engineers, Product Managers, Data Engineers and Analysts, as well as our customers, to build best-in-class business platforms.
• Partner with the Head of Engineering and Head of Product Management to set direction of key technology systems, with a focus on iterative delivery.
• Mentor the next generation of Senior Software Engineers and Engineering Leaders at Particle Health.

• Experience building technology platforms using a modern cloud infrastructure provider is a must. Particle Health uses Google Cloud Provider (GCP), but experience with any modern provider, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), works for us.
• Experience choosing the cloud infrastructure products that provide the most leverage for the application tier. You’ll be responsible for building the application tier as well as architecting the cloud infrastructure tier. Particle Health has an SRE team who you will partner with on this.
• Ability to run production software through your understanding of various deployment and infrastructure-as-code solutions, observability and telemetry, and defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
• Ability to lead through influence (this is not a management position); you will do this through strong written and verbal communication skills, your ability to build consensus, basic project management and task delegation skills, and stakeholder expectation setting.
• Have a keen interest in being a mentor, growing the next generation of Senior Software Engineers at Particle Health.
• Have 6+ years of experience in backend software engineering or systems engineering at a SaaS or consumer services product company.

• Health Tech experience, especially if you’ve worked with GCP Cloud Healthcare API or AWS FHIR Works or interoperability standards such as HL7 CDA or the more modern HL7 FHIR.
• Building data transformation pipelines using DAG-based workflow programming platforms such as Airflow, Dagster, etc.
• Experience evangelizing platforms and thinking about internal Product and Engineering teams as your customers.
