What you will do

• You will be joining an embedded software engineering team at Johnson Controls that develops firmware for Building Automation System Equipment Controls products used by our customers to run their buildings and manage their energy costs.
• This Product Owner position is for a self-motivated individual that is interested in shaping the next generation of these building automation controls, enabling our global customers to optimize their comfort, energy usage, and security within their commercial buildings.
• This position is responsible for the analysis, planning, and documentation of new and existing products and features and for ensuring that the deliverables satisfy desired business outcomes.

How you will do it

• Work with product management to understand the product visions and strategies, identify features and capabilities and develop a roadmap to achieve the visions and strategies
• Utilize requirements and system analysis techniques to evaluate business problems (i.e., interviews, workshops, site visits, shadowing, requirements elicitation sessions, etc.)
• Facilitate and provide leadership during requirements elicitation & validation sessions, in conjunction with appropriate partners such as product management, field organizations, engineering, manufacturing, etc.
• Manage the real needs of the project stakeholders, including customers and end users
• Define, develop, and manage the needed collateral and artifacts (such as workflows, use cases, user stories, business rules, etc.) for the team to consume during product development
• Work with product management and engineering to develop and maintain a prioritized and detailed product backlog with acceptance criteria
• Translate the product requirements into testable engineering requirements and specifications consumable by engineering teams
• Maintain requirement traceability and enforce requirement vetting and approval processes
• Work collaboratively with architects, technical leads, project teams, and the business to evaluate technology solutions, and to ensure conceptual solutions meet all requirements and desired outcomes
• Understand engineering and software challenges and provide recommendations for tradeoffs and compromises to accommodate release schedules
• Monitor progress during sprints, resolving with stakeholder input any ambiguities and conflicts with other existing or new functionality
• Work with field organizations, product management, and engineering to reproduce, triage, analyze, prioritize and resolve defects
• Monitor customer acceptance and engagement and gather feedback to improve the products and features
• Proactively contribute to ongoing process improvement

What we look for

Required

• Highly motivated, self-directed, and experienced professional with 7 years of experience in a Business Analyst, Product Owner, engineering, or equivalent technical role
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a closely related discipline to be determined by business needs or equivalent technical experience
• Knowledge of HVAC equipment is required
• Domain knowledge of Building Automation Systems
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills with strong problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and the ability to work collaboratively with teams and individuals across different functional areas, organizations, and global locations

Preferred

• Experience with Johnson Controls products and systems
• Experience in developing a product roadmap with well-defined product requirements including features and acceptance test criteria
• Established background in launching products in partnership with engineering teams
• Experience in defining complex projects (multiple integrated systems, stakeholders, and development organizations)
• Worked in an Agile environment where continuously reviewed business needs, refined priorities, outlined deliverables, and identified risks
