Job Description

Gotion, Inc. is based in Silicon Valley in California, with R&D centers in Ohio, China, Japan and Europe. We innovate in the next generation electric vehicle and energy storage technologies (lithium batteries and related systems) with the aim to accelerate electrified transportation and achieve sustainable development. Gotion is powered by a leading power battery technology company that provides solutions for vehicles including the world's first mass commercial e-bus route.
Gotion is a career destination - we are not simply attempting to just fill another job, but to pursue a dream of global green energy together! We offer outstanding opportunities to individuals seeking an exciting and challenging working environment. Everyone is highly valued and plays a vital role in the growth of our organization.

Job Summary: As a Battery Failure Analysis Engineer, you will play a critical role in identifying and understanding the causes of battery failures in Gotion's electric systems. You will utilize your expertise in battery technology, testing methodologies, and data analysis to investigate and diagnose battery-related issues. Your work will contribute to the continuous improvement of Gotion's battery systems, ensuring the highest level of quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough analysis of battery failures, including electrical, mechanical, and thermal aspects, utilizing appropriate testing and diagnostic techniques.
  2. Design and execute tests to replicate failure conditions and identify root causes. This may involve conducting electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests using specialized equipment and instrumentation.
  3. Analyze data from various sources, such as battery management systems, telemetry logs, and test results, to understand failure mechanisms, trends, and potential mitigation strategies.
  4. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including battery design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers, to gather information, share findings, and develop solutions.
  5. Document all aspects of failure analysis activities, including test plans, procedures, results, and recommendations. Prepare detailed reports to communicate findings and propose corrective actions.
  6. Identify and validate root causes of battery failures through systematic analysis, utilizing tools such as 8D problem-solving methodology, fault tree analysis, or other established techniques.
  7. Proactively identify opportunities for improving battery design, manufacturing processes, and quality control based on failure analysis findings. Collaborate with teams to implement corrective actions and preventive measures.
  8. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in battery technology, failure analysis techniques, and industry best practices. Apply this knowledge to enhance failure analysis capabilities and contribute to ongoing research and development efforts.
  9. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations during failure analysis activities. Ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field. Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with data acquisitions, testing setups and related software.
  • Proven experience in battery failure analysis, preferably in the automotive or energy storage industry.
  • Strong understanding of battery technologies, including lithium-ion batteries, their failure modes, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic and testing techniques for batteries, such as electrical testing, thermal imaging, microstructural analysis, destructive and non-destructive testing.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and software for interpreting complex datasets.
  • Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS), battery testing standards, and safety regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think analytically and apply structured methodologies for root cause analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings and recommendations to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Continuous learner with a passion for staying updated on emerging battery technologies and failure analysis techniques.
