Total Base Pay Range

• $96,000 -$120,000 - $144,000 Annual

Summary

This role will provide legal advice on matters relevant to the credit union's operations. The individual in this position will be responsible for a broad range of legal matters, including drafting and negotiating a wide assortment of contracts for various departments. The role also requires a strong ability to research and interpret complex laws, statutes, and regulations to provide clear and concise legal advice to internal clients at various levels within the credit union.

Role and Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts for various departments within the credit union, including by proactively identifying and minimizing legal risks to protect the credit union's interests.
• Advise internal clients regarding legal requirements and risks associated with existing and new product offerings, with a solutions-focused approach that anticipates and provides recommendations for minimizing risks.
• Research, analyze, and interpret complex laws, statutes, and regulations. Provide related advice in a clear and concise manner to internal clients at various levels within the credit union.
• Assess the merits of actual and threatened litigation and provide strategic guidance for resolving such matters.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Law degree from an accredited law school and active member of a state bar; admission to the Illinois bar preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant experience advising financial institutions regarding transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters required, as in-house counsel and/or as a law firm associate.
• Strong research, writing, and negotiation skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions based on legal judgment.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate and explain complex legal issues to non-lawyers.
• Ability to quickly understand and balance business and legal needs.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple and complex projects.
