JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Summary
The Benefits Consulting Director will be an experienced benefits professional within health & welfare, retirement plan and wellbeing benefits. They have experience leading large benefit plan initiatives to further strategic goals and have senior-level expertise in consulting on complex benefits issues to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. They are accountable for results through the delivery of benefit programs within several areas including retirement, wellbeing, ancillary benefits and relocation. They are responsible for the benefit engagement strategy and ensuring CNA's benefit plans/programs meet the diverse needs of CNA employees and their families.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Drives large business-specific and/or corporate-wide benefit projects and initiatives, and ensures adherence to strategic goals, consistent application of corporate benefit policies and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Identifies, recommends, develops, and implements benefit programs, processes, guidelines and policy to address business needs and provides overall ownership of retirement, wellbeing, ancillary benefits and relocation programs
  • Liaison with internal stakeholders including Payroll, Finance, Third Party Risk Management, Legal, Tax and Compliance, etc. in relation to benefits communication and enhancements, administration and project management
  • Develops and maintains vendor and client relationships, and serves as benefit liaison both internally and externally
  • Consults on or manages the most complex, high-visibility, benefit issues or appeals and makes recommendations to management and other external business partners
  • Develops and provides presentations to the company regarding benefit programs and initiatives
  • Supports the benefits ERISA committees and develops and presents meeting materials
  • Acts as technical expert, in specialty areas for internal and external business partners, (e.g., health & welfare, retirement, plan design, ERISA, etc.).
  • Directs the design, implementation, administration and maintenance of benefit platforms and vendors in conjunction with the Senior Benefits Consultant
  • Monitors and responds to legislative updates, trends and developments within the benefits space and insurance industry; and participates and/or may represent the company at benefit association and industry functions
  • Development of CNA's benefit plan communication and engagement strategy and oversight of CNA's online benefit communication channels and external communications consultant

Assistant Vice President or above
Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Senior level technical knowledge of benefit theory, practices and applicable laws
  • Strong working knowledge of financial theory/concepts including an understanding of the financial statement and impacts of benefit plans and programs, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources theory, practices and applicable laws
  • Ability to design, develop, implement and communicate benefit plans and programs to support strategic business initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, consulting and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners
  • Solid influencing, negotiation and facilitation skills with the ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with customers, peers and other members of management
  • Expert in administration of existing benefit platforms
  • Excellent project management, organizational, analytical, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Workday, as well as other business related software
  • Must be results oriented


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Typically a minimum of 10 years related work experience with demonstrated proficiency in required benefit skills and abilities
  • Professional designation such as CEBS or CBP preferred
