Working under general supervision in partnership with the Senior Director of Total Rewards, the Benefits Leader develops and manages benefit programs that support the King's Hawaiian people strategy to deliver an irresistible employee experience. The Benefits Leader contributes to the overall total rewards strategy by perfecting current programs and processes, introducing new offerings that are effective and affordable, and by driving the creation of a culture of wellness for a healthy and happy 'ohana. The Benefits Leader may interact with management several times a week to receive guidance and feedback. Some non-routine activities may require their leader's advance approval, but routine decisions within the general scope of the role should be made independently.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with the King's Hawaiian benefit advisory group, the People leadership team, and our consultants to refine the benefits strategy to address future healthcare and workforce challenges.
- Offer thought leadership on the role of benefits in the future of work; initiate related cross-functional discussions, analyze conversational insights, and recommend action.
- Design, build and deploy benefits and wellness programs to enable the business to attract, hire and retain the best possible talent; manage the ongoing quality of these programs.
- Build awareness of employee needs, industry trends, and developments in benefits offered by other organizations to recommend programs and processes that add value.
- Ensure health and wellness programs are tied to the People strategy and align with the company's aloha values to support an irresistible employee experience.
- Manage leave of absence program and provide oversight to 3rd party administrator; provide regular feedback and modifications on administering leaves of absence including Personal, Military, FMLA, CFRA, ADA, etc.
- Critically examine benefit plans to ensure they align with employee emotional, physical, and financial well-being through targeted programs and initiatives.
- Inform and support senior management decision-making by analyzing benefit options and projecting future costs; partner with external consultants and internal Finance partners to plan and budget for future expenses.
- Manage the flawless execution of the annual enrollment experience and partner with the business to deliver fun and educational events to raise employee awareness of benefits.
- Ensure the accurate and timely transmission of benefits data between internal and external systems; partner with technical experts to prevent or correct data discrepancies.
- Partner with internal counsel to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements by examining existing laws, regulations, and updates to legal requirements.
- Effectively manage employee retirement (401k) and deferred compensation programs; evaluate vendor partnerships, participate in 401(k) committee meetings, and provide education to plan participants.
- Provide support to EHS and Operations as needed for the implementation and management of the Oakwood onsite clinic.
- Build and manage a highly effective benefits team through uncompromising recruiting, effective and timely coaching, ongoing career development, and leadership by example.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this role.
BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in HR, Business, Accounting, or equivalent work experience required; Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or similar certification preferred
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in Benefits required; experience managing benefits in manufacturing or supply chain facilities preferred
- Demonstrated background leadership responsibility for a team of Benefits professionals required
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE)
- Expert knowledge of benefits practices and procedures for the implementation and administration of organization-wide self and fully insured benefits plans, programs, and policies.
- Proficient ability to understand and contribute insights to a long-term strategy while remaining focused on tactical, short-term objectives.
- Proficient knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Excel and Outlook
- Proficient knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, etc.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization
- Proficient relationship building skills, including the capacity to predict and manage behavior, build, and leverage cross-functional partnerships within and outside of the organization
- Proficient knowledge of HR Management software such as ADP, Workday, PeopleSoft or similar
- Expert ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
- Demonstrated capacity for gathering/scrutinizing data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions
- Ability to assertively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to activate and amplify aloha via King's values of excellence, dignity, telling it like it is in a way it can be heard, and curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.
Compensation Range: $110,000 - $160,000
