As Billing Manager, you will be responsible for (1) leading all tasks related to billing preparation and submission, (2) data analysis of denied billing claims and resolving them for successful payment, and (3) creating new billing and denied claims workflows in response to new requirements from payors (like NC Medicaid’s Managed Care Organizations). You will lead the billing workflow as a member of the Regional Team responsible for managing operations of the Agencies within your reporting territory.

A summary of your responsibilities includes:

  • Lead the team in developing effective billing processes
  • Be responsible for operational activities related to pre-billing, billing preparation, and timely submission of billing
  • Ensure compliance of information required prior to billing submission
  • Establish and maintain good communication, including appropriate written documentation, and rapport with internal staff and clients, State Health Care Management entities and Managed Care Organizations
  • Oversee the billing processes to be submitted properly to all entities in-network with the agency, following appropriate guidelines, timelines, and deadlines
  • Think strategically to advise on and implement operational best practices as the processes continue to evolve and improve internally 
  • Advise on the continued development of our software platform to streamline processes 
  • Identify denied claims, their cause, and work on resolving them
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a sustainable workflow for billing and denied claims resolution, including a workflow for appealing denied claims as necessary 
  • Identify possible gaps or interruptions in client services and work with the agency teams to resolve them
  • Gather claims data, and create status reports on claims submissions and outcomes
  • Communicate and familiarize team members with ways to avoid denied claims
  • Maintain satisfactory claims reimbursements
  • Designating a qualified employee to act in your absence 
  • Perform tasks as needed to ensure successful billing operations 
  • Participate in weekly team meetings focused on process development and quality improvement 

 

Success in this position is measured by:

  • Compliance error rate: Max 10% error rate
  • Billing: Max 2% denied claims
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining a successful billing workflow

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree is preferred
  • 3-5 years of billing experience or the ability to demonstrate quick learning and mastery of complex data sets/systems
  • Knowledge and experience: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, Data entry, Data analysis, Leadership skills, Spreadsheet management, Administrative writing, Research and reporting, Organizational and process design, Clinical compliance
  • Character: Detail oriented, Self-starter, Independent problem solving, Leadership, Effective communication, Creativity, Emotional maturity and stability, Ability to maintain a judgement-free team, Comfortable with accountability, Reliability, and Integrity
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, email, web-based client software, Mac OS X
