Bioinformatics Scientist/Engineer

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking an exceptional bioinformatics scientist to join our informatics team. Belharra’s informatics team is empowered to make large impacts across the organization and substantially contribute to the discovery and development of interventions for challenging human targets implicated in disease.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Perform computational analysis of mass-spectrometry based proteomics data, with an emphasis on cheminformatics and structural biology.
• Ability or desire to learn proteomics and apply machine learning models with chemoproteomic datasets.
• Assist with development of machine learning models for accelerating drug discovery.
• Work closely with teams (biology, chemistry, proteomics) across the company to help them develop experiments and to analyze, explore, and understand complex data.
• Deliver actionable insights driving the development of transformative, first-in-class medicines.
• Clearly and accurately document work and effectively utilize version-control systems.
• Perform under tight timelines and work effectively across multiple projects and align with different project teams.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TEAM

• MS or PhD in biology, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, structural biology, data science, or related quantitative field
• Experience with cheminformatics and structural biology (docking, virtual screening, or molecular dynamics)
• General understanding of small molecule drug discovery.
• Excellent programming ability with experience applying computational methods to analyze complex biological data.
  • Fluency in Python and its scientific programming ecosystem (Pandas, SciPy, matplotlib, scikit-learn, RDKit, etc)
  • Ability to write maintainable, testable, and well-organized code that is checked into version control systems.
• Desire to continuously learn and step outside of one’s comfort zone.
• Ability to effectively communicate with both bench scientists and executive leadership.
• Experience using REST APIs and interfacing with public biological knowledgebases.

Desired, but not required: 

• Understanding of proteomics data 
• Experience using SQL.
• Experience with the AWS cloud ecosystem
• Experience with machine learning
• Experience with bioinformatics workflow tools
