Position Overview:
Fabric Genomics is assembling a team of the best and brightest to shape the future of personalized medicine. We seek an experienced, self-motivated Bioinformatics Scientist/Engineer with a strong background in bioinformatics, genomic science, and software development to join our Research and Development team. This presents a unique opportunity to closely collaborate with a strong team of geneticists, software engineers, data scientists, and other professionals who are collectively shaping the future of personalized medicine.
Reporting to the Director of Bioinformatics, this role is pivotal in providing computational and scientific expertise to evaluate, develop, and maintain various systems within the Fabric Genomics framework. As a key contributor, you will actively participate in enhancing our systems, integrating cutting-edge bioinformatics tools, and engaging in an agile software engineering process. Additionally, you will be responsible for performing various analyses and statistical tests to support ongoing and future projects. Collaboration with product development, clinical services, and software engineering groups will be crucial to create innovative software and workflows. The selected individual will play a crucial role in advancing our bioinformatics software development, conducting statistical analyses, and contributing significantly to the evolution of our mission in personalized medicine.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and maintain bioinformatics tools, systems, and methods, ensuring high standards of performance and functionality.
- Design and implement computational algorithms and tools for new and existing projects.
- Conduct bioinformatics and statistical analyses for internal projects and external customers, delivering standardized and custom analytical support.
- Utilize in-depth genomics and molecular biology knowledge to make informed decisions, ensuring the accurate selection and execution of analyses, and asking pertinent questions for comprehensive data interpretation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, data scientists, and geneticists to develop innovative software and workflows.
- Troubleshoot and maintain bioinformatics pipelines with a focus on transparency, reliability, and reproducibility.
- Provide bioinformatics support to internal and external collaborators, developing new analytical methods and presenting findings.
- Drive advancements in genomics and bioinformatics science.
Qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Genomics, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years (MS) or 2+ years (PhD) of industry experience in bioinformatics or computational biology positions.
- Demonstrable experience in the development and application of bioinformatics tools, methods, and algorithms.
- Strong quantitative skills with experience performing statistical data analysis.
- Significant experience and proficiency in software development using (in priority order) Python, SQL, Shell, Perl, C/C++, and/or Java. (Experience with object-oriented programming is a plus.) Sample code of a project written by or primarily by the candidate is required.
- Proficient in statistical data analysis and statistical programming in Python or R.
- Strong understanding of genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and next-generation sequencing.
- Experience with Cloud Computing (e.g., AWS) and deployment on Linux/Unix environments.
- Familiarity with clinical genomics data, databases, and tools.
- Familiarity with common bioinformatics file types.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., GitHub).
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Apache Spark, Hadoop, Docker, and workflow managers (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake, Airflow).
- Genomic Data Science experience.
- Familiarity with Agile programming.
- Experience and knowledge of analyzing genomics diagnostics NGS data.
- Experience developing algorithms for variant calling including detection of DNA copy number variation and other applications.
- Experience with data wrangling, statistical methods, and machine learning toolkits such as Pandas, Numpy, scikit-learn, Tensorflow, Keras, or PyTorch.

We are looking for a highly skilled and unique software engineer with experience in Dev-ops, data management and scientific computing. In this pivotal role, you will be creating best-in-class software to support the vast amounts of data that our system integrates to provide genomic interpretation services to our clients. You will work on the development of back-end services geared towards facilitating the streamlined upkeep of both public and private clinical genomic data. You will also play a crucial role in designing and optimizing workflow processes for transforming, integrating, and processing data. Furthermore, you will be instrumental in establishing a robust and secure cloud-based deployment infrastructure. Your contributions will create the building blocks for future growth and be integral to the success of our mission here at Fabric Genomics.
