Biomedical Text Analysis Intern, Summer 2023
Job Description
Schrödinger is seeking a Biomedical Text Analysis Intern to join our drug discovery team as an intern for a minimum of 12 weeks. Individuals will use their text mining and biology skills to mine the biomedical literature beyond peer-reviewed publications (eg, patents, conference abstracts) on targets of interest to curate data supporting target validation and drug discovery project insights and present their findings to biology and new target-focused teams.
Our drug discovery and early clinical development team includes a cross-functional group of scientists and drug developers with experience working on all common target classes and therapeutic areas. The group is supported by more than 100 software developers and engineers as well as a large-scale compute infrastructure to apply our proprietary physics-based drug design and optimization platform. Several programs we have worked on have achieved Development Candidates, including progression to clinical development and FDA approval. Estimated base salary (NYC only): $7,500/mo. Actual compensation package is dependent on a number of factors, including, for example, experience, education, degrees held, market data, and business needs. What you'll do:
- Apply programmatic text mining skills to identify data from text resources such as patents and conference abstracts supportive of target validation or enablement or addresses biological research questions pertinent to active drug discovery projects
- Collaborate with target analysis or drug discovery project teams to contextualize identified insights with orthogonal evidence
- Interpret, visualize and share results in a way that contributes to cross-functional target analysis and project research
What you should have:
- A graduate major in biomedical informatics, computer science, health data science or a related field
- Broad background in cellular and molecular biology, including familiarity with oncogenic or inflammation pathways
- Experience accessing and analyzing textual data using using various algorithmic approaches; experience with with BioBERT is desired
- Programming experience required; working knowledge of Python, SQL, or similar languages preferred
- Ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with other interns and cross-functional drug discovery professionals in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
