What is BitMEX - and why do we exist?

BitMEX is a derivatives trading platform that offers investors opportunities using only Bitcoin. We are not a spot exchange where you can buy Bitcoin with USD or other fiat currencies. Across the globe, and particularly in Asia, we have over half a million open accounts, of which approximately 100,000 belong to active users. Effectively, BitMEX offers commercial hedgers, Bitcoin miners, and professional and retail traders the ability to speculate on the price of Bitcoin, and to exchange Bitcoin risk, with other market participants on a level playing field. Our platform was developed by ex-bankers who were (and are) well-versed in computer science, financial engineering, and traditional finance.
