Job Description

This position calls for a solutions-focused individual interested in supporting a team and helping to build book publishing relationships by using creative approaches to sales and subsidiary rights. Partnering closely with the team, this person will collaborate in our goals to expand the reach of APA titles to the largest possible readership through sales distribution and licensing around the globe.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of experience in a business or publishing environment required
  • A strong interest in either licensing/sales, or subsidiary rights/publishing is a plus
  • Understanding of the issues impacting print and digital book buying behavior
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Google Survey, Google Docs, and Excel, and an avid interest and ability in learning new application

Computer Skills Required

  • MS Office Suite (fluent) including solid Excel skills
  • Internet research (fluent)
  • Extensive use of RightsZone/SalesForce will be required

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the sales strategy of APA books
  • Circulate publishing schedules and publishing plan changes to our rep teams and international distributors
  • Build buy reports for key wholesale accounts
  • Coordinate and prepare materials and schedules for domestic and foreign licensing/translations
  • Create and maintain Domestic and Foreign Rights Guides (a tool to license rights in the early life of a book) and Backlist Guides (previously published books)
  • Liaise with customer service, rep teams, authors, and customers to ensure timely shipments and answering queries
  • Prioritize tasks with a hands-on approach to research/ad-hoc projects when needed
  • Exercise a curious and strategic mindset to research projects
  • Demonstrate capability to juggle multiple projects within a deadline-driven environment and skilled in managing multiple inboxes on Outlook
  • Possess timely follow-up skills and able to keep a close attention to detail
  • Open to share and embrace new ideas and work with the team to streamline and improve processes
  • Demonstrate capability to forge and maintain productive relationships with colleagues in other divisions within the company
  • Assist the Books Director of Sales with day to day sales and promotional activities
