The Project Manager - NASA Parachute Airdrop Testing will support the JETS II contract supporting NASA's pursuits in deep space exploration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform project management for a NASA project to continue and expand parachute testing capabilities for human spaceflight applications (hardware development, integration, testing, and analysis).
  • Provide budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating support.
  • Monitor cost performance against established plans.
  • Develop and maintain company and customer financial reports.
  • Monitor scheduled deliverables against established plans.
  • Oversee and develop procedures, work instructions and process flows.
  • Review and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy of reporting.
  • Submit and track purchase requests, including subcontracts with the rigging team and machine shop in Yuma, Arizona.
  • Prepare project monthly status meetings for Jacobs management (also present to NASA as requested).
  • Perform risk analysis and tracking for the project.
  • Interface frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA System Managers, and operational customers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
  • Manage a dynamic team at multiple Jacobs facilities.
  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware or test support hardware.
  • Able to perform duties at Jacobs facility in Houston, TX and Yuma, Arizona (~ 2 weeks of travel per month during test campaigns).
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering with 10+ years of related experience.
  • Able to perform duties at Jacobs facility in Houston, TX and travel to Yuma, Arizona (~ 2 weeks of travel per month during test campaigns).
  • Experience with NASA/JSC flight hardware process and certification.
  • Prior experience managing and leading a team.
  • Prior experience with financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating.
  • Experience with requirements development, design trades, risk analysis, and system analysis of space or aircraft flight hardware.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.

DESIRED:

  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.
  • Prior experience with large-scale test for space or aircraft hardware.
  • Prior experience with parachute systems, airdrops, and/or flight test.
  • Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and proficiency using them to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting on mechanical systems.

WORK LOCATION:

  • This position offers a 9/80 schedule, every other Friday off.
  • This position will require some travel.

  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time).
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

ATTENDANCE:

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check, some positions require a clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen; some contracts require participation in periodic random drug and alcohol screening programs.
