JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for directing and administering the company budget process to effectively manage company resources and meet financial and operational goals. This individual must build and maintain effective relationships and communicate frequently with all levels of management, other departments within the company, SCS, and his or her staff to ensure that deadlines are met, information and analyses are accurate and timely, and management has the information necessary to make informed decisions. The supervisor must provide performance management and foster employee development for employees reporting to this position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Masters degree or CPA a plus
  • Utility accounting, budgeting, and / or financial planning experience
  • Knowledge and experience with EF, Maximo and Oracle is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills are critical - must have the ability to analyze data and discern relevant trends, explain variances, and identify cost drivers
  • Demonstrate awareness of industry issues and understanding of the company's business, including a broad knowledge of the various business functions and their impacts on each other
  • Ability to manage projects of various complexities simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, external partners and employees
  • Demonstrate leadership and foster teamwork; take personal responsibility for results; take proactive role in recognizing opportunities and resolving problems

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

25% Direct and administer the budget process to effectively manage company resources to achieve company goals

25% Monitor and review budget deviations, year-end projections and other various reports for reasonableness and accuracy and provide analysis to management for decisions regarding company goals

25% Lead budgeting department activities to ensure annual budget process and subsequent actual to budget analyses are accurate, timely and thorough

5% Manage and coordinate all special projects with regards to budgeting

5% Actively participate in systemwide efforts to represent Southern Power's needs and interests as they relate to budgeting and reporting, including decisions regarding changes or issues impacting the current budgeting process and/or applications

5% Continually evaluate services and support provided to internal and external partners to ensure their needs are being completely met in an efficient and effective manner

10% Provide support for personal development of employees by encouraging continuous training, assisting in developing performance plans and providing coaching, as needed
