We are looking for a Business Analyst II to work closely with our P&C insurance carrier clients to learn about their business needs as it relates to the functionality of our PolicyPort application. Leveraging their knowledge of underwriting and insurance processes, the Business Analyst I develops and documents business requirements that assists resources on the Product Delivery team in the development and implementation of a quality, enterprise web-based insurance processing application and solution.
Summary: Develops and documents business requirements that assist others in the development of quality-based solutions and provides for intermediate business analysis functions for product development and implementation of an enterprise web based insurance processing application by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Develops business requirements documents that meet our customer's insurance business needs.
  • Assists in and supports other Focus Technologies teams in their triage of production issues.
  • Develops quality documentation in support of Focus Technologies operations.
  • Seeks to improve the application workflow for the betterment of our customers.
  • Monitors and follows the development lifecycle methodologies Focus Technologies has in place.
  • Ensures estimates and BRD's are developed and delivered in a timely manner, with accuracy.
  • Provides business guidance and support to Focus Technologies to ensure the future viability of the PolicyPort application.
  • Responds to and resolves production issues in a timely manner.
  • Provides all necessary support to new employees to ensure they gain a complete understanding of the PolicyPort application.
  • Coordinates with the technical team during technical architecture design, development and delivery of product changes and enhancements.
  • Develops and documents business solutions for business problems and translates those solutions to technical personnel and sees those solutions through the delivery process.
  • Participates in business and technical requirements reviews. Improves internal and external processes, as needed.
  • Participates in the continuous process improvement projects of the Product Delivery Division in support of Corporate Goals and Divisional Goals and Objectives.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of personal auto insurance experience. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, in business or computer science. Three (3) to five (5) years of data analysis, or project management experience preferably in the insurance industry; minimum of three (3) years of experience with SQL queries and related tools; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Technical Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong proficiency in SQL queries and related tools such as SQL functions and creation of temporary tables; Proficiency working with DB2 and the ability to work with SQL Server and Sybase. Proficiency working with reporting and Business Intelligence tools including the ability to understand and produce tabular reports, bar graphs, line graphs and pie charts. Working knowledge of SDLC concepts and goals. Experience with Cognos, InfoMaker and Rational Requisite Pro is a plus.
