HDR is looking for a Business Development Director to join our growing Education, Science and Community practice in Raleigh, NC. This individual will be expected to continue the legacy of providing our clients and communities with creative design solutions that improve the health and human condition of those they serve. Consistently ranked #1 in Science and Technology architecture in Building & Design Construction's annual Giants report, HDR is a leader in innovative planning and design, client service and thought leadership on health projects globally and throughout the region. The primary responsibility of the Business Development Director will be to grow and develop the Education, Science and Technology architecture practice in the South Atlantic (NC/SC/GA) Area. They will focus on developing and winning new business relationships and opportunities with health organizations and related institutions in the local and the regional market.

Primary day-to-day duties will include:

Business Development, Marketing and Practice Growth

• Reporting to the Charlotte office Managing Principal

• Working with South Atlantic Area offices: Raleigh, Charlotte, and Atlanta

• Collaborating with our East and National Education, Science and Technology architecture leaders

• Creating/Supporting new or ongoing business opportunities for the Education, Science and Technology architecture practice

• Supporting HDR's marketing and business development efforts to win business, including developing proposal strategies and writing interview presentations

• Bringing energy, excitement and fun to a thriving practice

• Adding value to the area to engage with the Education, Science and Technology program strategically

Client Management and Project Delivery Responsibilities

• Enjoying working directly with clients

• Directing client engagement and collaborating with project and regional leadership

• Prioritizing efforts strategically to elevate the skillsets/needs of each office leader to identify client opportunities, pursuit specific requirements, and market awareness

• Capture planning and client development planning

• Cross mentoring to Education, Science and Technology Principals and mentoring to emerging leaders interested in client development, business development, and pursuit strategy

• Helping to keep our staff sharp, trained and effective for client development and interview requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of related business development experience
  • Proven business development and client engagement experience in the architecture industry
  • Education, Science and Technology architecture market sector experience required
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
  • Ready for excitement and fun within a dynamic design culture of an employ owned firm

Preferred Qualifications

  • Local candidates are preferred
