PRIMARY FUNCTION
Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, the Business Development Manager's role is to grow existing lines of business by developing and executing business development strategies and identify new and relevant opportunities. This individual will identify, qualify, and support the capture of new business by developing key relationships with relevant stakeholders and government customers and increasing the organization's presence in the industry. Ability to develop and present marketing and training materials and effectively utilize business analytic tools is a key component of this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Define target markets, identify and qualify new business opportunities that align with company growth objectives.
- Develop an attainable business development strategy and capture plans with strong focus and understanding of customers critical requirements and issues.
- Provide strategic support across the entire business development lifecycle including capture, proposal, bid and pricing process.
- Participate in color team reviews and provide critical feedback to the proposal team.
- Develop and facilitate business development and capture training materials in support of Business Development and Proposal teams.
- Audit internal business development, proposal processes, metrics and generate executive level analytic reporting
- Lead the development and management of strategic account plans.
- Create framework for how to prioritize new business ventures.
- Develop competitive intel reports evaluate activities, services and products of the new markets and potential partners and competitors
- Maximize key relationships to create synergies, alliances, and opportunities.
- Support key capture and proposal initiatives
- Identify and attract new customers and service existing customers.
- Maintain and share professional knowledge through education, networking, events, and presentations.
- Maintain sales and utilization quota results in the assigned territory.
- Responsible for the creation and implementation of marketing plan.
- Support tradeshows and industry events as required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Business Development Manager will manage and coordinate business development functions and perform exempt level decision making including interviewing, hiring, termination, performance reviews and performance corrections. This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out and execute assigned tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Experience driving new business growth, including serving as the lead on new business pursuits.
- Experience with operational and capture practices with a history of achieving plans.
- Credibility with external constituents; the incumbent should have a developed network of relevant contacts and industry partners within the United States Space Force and United States Air Force.
- Articulate and proven leader who will play the role of counsel and complement the leadership and capture teams with full knowledge of the contract bid/proposal process.
- Ability to prioritize multiple pursuits.
- Advanced computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
- Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, regulatory requirements, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write complex reports and correspondence
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with external contacts such as customers, vendors, suppliers, legal counsel, regulatory agency officials, etc.
- Must be trustworthy - will handle confidential information routinely
- Effective written communication skills to communicate complex information effectively and clearly to others as well as to present information in front of a large group.
- Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, etc.
- Ability to follow a process.
- Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and consider decision impact across multiple areas.
- Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management and regulatory agencies
- Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations, detect unobvious facts and issues, and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.
- Must be able to work independently and stay on task with minimal to no supervision
- Ability to multi-task.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or similar field required. Master's in Business Administration preferred
- 15+ years' industry experience in business program management and business development
- Experience with small disadvantaged business 8(a) regulations and contracting required
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management software and solutions, and business development applications, preferably Salesforce, Deltek, GovWin, Bloomberg Government
- Experience in developing bids and estimates for services and manufacturing work
- Experience in developing and presenting complex training materials
- Experience in developing and monitoring processes and analytic reporting
- Proficiency in Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint, and Deltek products required
- Entrepreneurial outlook that creates solutions to customer's PWS at competitive cost
- Must have an active Top-Secret Government Security Clearance
- Experience developing, managing, and auditing structured proposal processes and procedures required
- Proven track record of success in the formulation and implementation of business development
- Ability to pass a drug and background screening
- Ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS 50%
