Job Description
The salary range for this position is $182,961 - $192,343.
Agile Six is a people-first, remote-work company that serves shoulder-to-shoulder with federal agencies to find innovative, human-centered solutions. We build better by putting people first. We are animated by our core values of Purpose, Wholeness, Trust, Self-Management and Inclusion. We deliver our solutions in autonomous teams of self-managed professionals (no managers here!) who genuinely care about each other and the work. We know that’s our company’s purpose – and that we can only achieve it by supporting a culture where talented people feel valued, self-managed, and love to come to work.
The Role
Agile Six is seeking to add a member to our Strategy and Business Development team. We are looking for someone who understands the “business of government” – the structure of contracts, laws, and regulations governing contractor engagements, the incentives and constraints surrounding procurement, and the contracting landscape – but who is eager to do things differently to create better outcomes for the people who use government services. This role requires a commitment to purposeful work, the ability to nurture trust-based relationships both within Agile Six and with our partners and customers, a focus on team outcomes, and attention to detail.
Our Approach to Strategy and Business Development
This is not a typical Business Development position, and we are not seeking to fill it with someone who is interested in working in traditional ways. At Agile Six:
- We really care about what we do and are looking for someone who brings the same passion for building a better Government and building lasting relationships.
- We cover many areas as a lean, cross-functional team (you might see yourself working on contracts, proposals, pricing, and accounts). We don’t have individual roles for specific duties that you may see in a traditional BD or contract shop. We believe the whole picture is important and that connecting the dots to deliver as a team makes us stronger. We seamlessly travel between tactical and strategic actions, sensing and responding to the needs of the team.
- We do not pay commissions on business development activities. Instead, our Strategy team works closely with our Delivery teams to ensure that there is no disconnect between what we “sell” and what we deliver. When we make a promise, we share the responsibility in keeping that promise. As we often say, “Delivery is our Strategy.”
- We do not believe that “any revenue is good revenue” and we do not set or pursue growth targets. Instead, we seek to build partnerships with purpose-driven companies who are aligned with our culture and values. We pursue work where we can deliver better outcomes for people and users of government services. We’re not impressed by inflated pipelines and large numbers, and we don’t spend our days actively searching for the next thing.
- We seek to build long-term relationships with agencies and partners built on trust. This requires empathy, emotional intelligence, and clear communication. We’re averse to sales approaches that are pushy, manipulative, or require sacrificing long-term relationships for short-term gain.
- We don’t overly rely on process. We believe traditional BD practices often lead to misaligned incentive structures and a false sense of security at the expense of collaboration and team outcomes. Instead, we listen, seek to understand the entire set of needs of our clients, partners, and teams, and sense and respond.
- We have fun and care for each other’s wholeness. We pursue purposeful work while supporting the team’s needs - nights and weekends are anomalies not a given.
