Business Intelligence Analyst

Hearst Newspapers is looking for an analyst to join our Business Intelligence team. Reporting to the Director of Business Intelligence, this role will work as part of a high-impact, high throughout division handling reports, analysis, forecasting, and modeling for the revenue team.

You will work directly with non-technical business stakeholders on the advertising team to translate business questions into data problems that our infrastructure can solve. That work will involve everything from building ad-hoc reports and dashboards, to forecasting revenue, and modeling strategic initiatives. In performing these activities, you will become the subject matter expert and primary contact for revenue analytics.

Working within the larger BI team, you will not only be involved in collaborative interdepartmental projects, but you may also be called upon to help with certain tasks in other divisions as well, such as editorial, subscriptions, and product. In doing so, you will gain exposure to and better understanding for the business at large and the role of revenue analytics within it.

Qualifications

• Degree in math, engineering, statistics, econometrics, data science, or related quantitative field
• 3-5 years experience in an analyst role (analyst, analytics, business intelligence, or similar)
• 1-2 years of experience with digital advertising in a digital media company
• Familiarity with the advertising landscape and related partners (Google Ad Manager, DSPs, header bidding, etc.)
• Proficiency with SQL (BigQuery preferred)
• Proficiency with any visualization tool (PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, Looker, etc. - Looker and PowerBI preferred)
• Experience with Python for data analysis
• Experience with revenue modeling and forecasting.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, especially when presenting to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience collaborating with data analysts and data engineers.
• Experience with web analytics (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or similar)
• Comfortable working independently and making autonomous analytical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Identify the needs of the revenue team, and generate ad-hoc memos and automated dashboards to provide access and insight for key stakeholders.
• Surface trends and conduct root causes analyses to uncover issues and opportunities.
• Present reports, findings, and analyses to senior leadership.
• Contribute to cross-functional strategic conversations and decision-making.
• Forecast performance, assisting in annual and quarterly financial planning.
• Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, and other data solutions for the revenue team
• Work with data engineering to produce and develop new data sets to serve business use cases for the revenue team.
