GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Business Intelligence Analyst supports Operations data analytics and reporting activities, including responsibility for defining business data needs, gathering requirements and building streamlined data visualization solutions following best practices and standards. The incumbent collaborates with business partners on data integration, reporting and analysis, proactively identifying, recommending and developing streamlined business intelligence and analytics strategies, systems and processes that enable the business to quickly extract insights from their data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports business enablement of accurate and timely reporting and data analytics.
  • As subject matter expert, performs design and development of effective, dynamic, and interactive data visualizations, including business dashboards and reports that meet cross-functional needs of the business and enables critical data-drive decisions.
  • Establishes and communicates standards and best practices for data visualization and dashboarding.
  • Transforms business partner data requests into accurate data that is timely and relevant to the business need.
  • Executes complex data related analytical projects that drive business decisions and efficiencies.
  • Researches, analyzes, validates and documents business requirements based on business need for dashboarding, project ROI, and ad hoc requests.
  • Proactively improves the quality of data and frequency of company reporting; recommends process improvements regarding same.
  • Ensures adherence to data management and data governance policies and standards.
  • Effectively partners with IT, Distribution and other AEL departments to deliver impactful reporting that ties back to key corporate objectives.
  • Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data, reports and dashboard information to identify trends or anomalies, draw conclusions and make applicable recommendations.
  • Remains current on trends, developments and best practices relative to business and data intelligence.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, business administration, or related field of study; plus, two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience in SQL, SAS, R, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Experience building dynamic and interactive dashboards and reports using BI tools like Tableau, MicroStrategy, Microsoft BI.
  • Experience with Salesforce reporting capabilities and dashboard creation
  • Experience streamlining and automating manual data processes.
  • Experience compiling data from disparate sources.

  • Strong Excel skills including preparing and using pivot tables, slicers, charts and graphs.
