How Will Your Role Impact First Command?

The Business Intelligence Intern will generate insights that impact First Command decision making. As part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics Team, the Business Intelligence Intern will have the opportunity to shape business intelligence practices for First Command and enhance the data-led decision-making with operations and technology leaders.

The Business Intelligence Intern will use analytics tools, data management platforms, frameworks, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to rationalize data needs that are critical to our business.

The ideal candidate is outcome-focused and has a collaborative style that fosters teamwork. They will have the opportunity to participate as a team member on an Agile Team or as part of Shared Services.

What Will You Be Doing?

• Collaborate with operations and technology leaders to develop an understanding of their business requirements and operational processes;
• Develop analysis and reporting capabilities to implement the data lifecycle, considering how financial services data is created, transformed, stored, archived, analyzed and shared in the organization;
• Complete data exploration and profiling by leveraging data analysis, design and presentation tools;
• Participate in the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analysis, dashboards, etc. to drive key business decisions;
• Visualize operational metrics such as data quality, data volume, data usage, and data product adoption;
• Contribute to a knowledgebase for data professionals and technologists to reference best practices and documentation.

What Skills/Qualifications Do You Need?

Education

• Level 1: BA or BS in progress
• Level 2: BA required. MBA or MS in progress a plus.

Required Qualifications

• Excellent written communication and presentation skills
• Proficiency in SQL with knowledge of T-SQL and PL/SQL
• Applied experience in analytics, business analysis or comparable positions that handle large/complex data sets, developing metrics, and fostering business partner relationships
• Demonstrated understanding of financial reporting and operational analytics
• Demonstrated understanding of data management practices
• Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools such as Tableau & Power BI
• Familiarity with statistical analysis and research techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications related to Data Analytics a plus
• Familiarity with data science capabilities using cloud computing such as Azure, AWS, Google Services
• Familiarity with modeling techniques using Python, R, and/or Scala
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming and the software development process
• Familiarity in Agile, SAFe, Scrum or Lean Six Sigma
