Business Operations and Finance Associate

Materialize is hiring someone to join a small team in charge of corporate operations, finance and strategy. You will have significant responsibility in a fast growing organization, and you will develop broad, hands-on experience with what it takes to run a company. You will work closely with every department to continuously improve the functioning, planning, and monitoring of the company as a whole. 

• Finance
  • You will develop full company financial plans and build department specific analyses to ensure Materialize meets budget goals.
  • You will partner with our accounting and tax teams to prepare backward and forward looking financial statements and file required taxes.
  • You will build pricing models for the ongoing refinement of our pricing strategy.
  • You will assist with the design and implementation of automated customer account creation, billing, sales tax and revenue recognition.
• Corporate Operations
  • You will optimize every aspect of corporate operations from cybersecurity insurance applications to IT procurement.
  • You will work closely with all departments to make sure we have the data, analysis and processes required for internal and external reporting.
  • You will play a key role in vendor selection and onboarding including by negotiating with vendors, reviewing contracts and ensuring vendors meet our efficiency, cost, and compliance standards.
  • You will partner with engineering to maintain and improve security and compliance certifications through hands-on monitoring and reviews.
  • You will closely review and craft legal documentation in concert with our counsel.
  • You will open new corporate entities across the globe.
• You will construct great internal strategy decks and board materials.
• You will have access to a variety of confidential information, and keep them confidential.
• You will gain an education in all foundational aspects of building a GTM engine in SaaS infrastructure.
• You will have exposure to all parts of the business including exposure to the co-founder and CEO.

• Strongly Preferred: at least 1-2 years at an investment bank or 1-2 years in management, strategy, or economic consulting. 1-4 years of overall work experience.
• Fluency with complex Excel spreadsheets.
• A laser-sharp attention to detail, and a commitment to operational excellence. A strong work ethic. There is no silver bullet, but instead a large quantity of lead bullets. You will be ruthlessly efficient.
• An ability to write clearly, at length. Materialize runs on written memos, and you will help write and edit them.
• Experience with financial modeling and accounting is a strong plus but not required. You can learn these skills on the job.
• Experience with SQL is a plus but not required. You can learn SQL on the job.

• You do not need an MBA. If you are considering applying to an MBA in order to effect a career switch into tech, apply for this job instead.
• You do not need any work experience in tech, startups, or engineering.
• You do not need any specific degree, or familiarity with technology. Having studied continental philosophy or government is fine (and perhaps is even an advantage, if it has taught you to write clearly). We're a team of world-class technologists and can teach you everything you need to know about computers, as long as you're willing to put in the work.
