Business Unit Lead

Position summary
The Business Unit Lead, strategically plans and directs the management of the business. Actively pursues new business opportunities with existing and new clients to ensure growth and development of the agency. Assume responsibility for the overall financial management of the company and deliver against agreed objectives and key performance indicators. Maintain the compliance and oversight of client firewalls. Motivate and lead teams to deliver high quality products and services. Demonstrate the core values of the company and ensure teams are upholding these values.
Core duties
• Create an environment where people can consistently perform at a high level
• Establish and deliver strategic plans for growth, ensuring alignment with the Nucleus Global strategy
• Partner with the Commercial team to identify new business opportunities for existing and potential new clients
• Develop business through new client deliverables and/or services
• Ensure business is effectively resourced to deliver high quality services
• Work with the Leadership team to develop forecasts and annual budgets.
• Manage agency P&L’s and budgets while controlling team productivity to achieve net revenue and profit targets
• Responsible for the cost-efficiency and profitability of the company
• Report to the Senior Vice President or the President, US Operations and receives guidance and feedback from them
• Develop and manage resourcing plans to ensure business continuity, service standards, project and company profitability
• Responsible for performance assessments, career development plans, training identification of the business
• Set agency strategic and operational objectives and monitor business performance against KPIs
• Work closely with Human Resources to facilitate recruitment and retention initiatives for agency
• Acts as a role model, leader and coach to line reports and agency to ensure all staff feel valued and supported
• Employee management and oversight of any employee relations issues, in coordination with Human Resources

Education, work experience and skills
• Bachelor’s degree (life sciences preferred) and a Master’s or PhD a plus
• 12+ years’ experience in project management or any appropriate combination of education and experience
• Medical communications or pharmaceutical experience
• Prior management experience
• Proven track record of building teams and new business
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills
• Financial management/P&L experience
• Business development experience
• This position requires some travel, it will vary by account and business
Core responsibilities
Leadership
• Communicate a vision for the agency company that aligns with the Nucleus Global vision
• Embody the NG values and encourage adherence across Nucleus Global
Business Development
• Encourage the teams to deliver new, original and innovative business ideas and/or services to meet clients’ needs
• Diversify the services and products of the business to maintain stability Project Management
• Ensure the team is delivery effective services to the complete satisfaction of the client
• Provide ongoing strategic counsel and advice to major clients
Financial
• Partner with Commercial team to develop and maintain relationships with client procurement teams
• Prepare financial forecasts, working with the Finance team, and deliver against these agreed upon targets
• Maintain the billability and recoverability targets
• Ensure timesheet compliance and approvals of staff are completed in a timely manner
Management
• Ensure team adheres to processes and maintains compliance of client firewalls
• Manage staff resources to deliver against forecasted revenue
• Support cross-agency and company initiatives to enhance service offerings, facilitate best practice sharing and support business stability and growth
• Build high performing teams within one’s company and across Nucleus Global. Collaborate and partner with other business leads and departments within region and beyond to ensure we are providing consistent services.
