Location: This position can be based out of Lititz, PA or Orlando, FL. 

Position Purpose

The Buyer II writes (raises) the Purchase Order (PO) and monitors pricing and delivery to support project budget and timeline in a fast-paced environment. The Buyer II will maintain proper inventory levels based on system demands and input from Inventory Analysts and the solicitation of competitive bids and cost comparison/analysis. The Buyer II will have strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain supplier relationships and communication. The Buyer II will negotiate pricing and control inflation of costs using leverage such as purchasing power and global consolidation of supply chain.  The Buyer II will be assigned a commodity or commodities to manage and must understand the components in their commodity base to control quality levels and costs.



Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Evaluate ERP demands and requisitions to accurately generate and complete PO’s in a cost effective and timely manner to support project timelines, budgets and quality.

Ensure strong purchase orders by including all material/price specifications as listed on bills of material and/or engineering drawings, as well as including all relevant commercial documents.

Maximize savings and ensure competitive buying with the utilization of strategic/preferred supplier agreements and competitive bidding and bid analysis.

Maintain and impact inventory levels with the inventory department.

Communicate part changes, delays, upgrades or any risk to other buyers, purchasing manager(s), design teams, and project management.

Interface between suppliers and various internal departments to resolve issues, quality, invoice problems, material specification questions, variances, etc., as required.

Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods

Request pricing for project managers and estimators as needed to allow them to prepare their bids in the most time and cost-efficient methods possible. Perform bid reviews.

Maintain supplier relationships to continually improve purchasing power.  Source new suppliers that can provide cost-efficient, timely and quality products, and negotiate pricing and terms.

Leverage and drive the Company’s position as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to obtain OEM pricing with manufacturers.

Assess and evaluate existing suppliers on quality, delivery, price and contribute to supplier scorecards. 

Provide subject matter expertise to monitor and track commodity pricing levels and understand the industry of suppliers and materials identified for procurement.  Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers. Provide analysis and cost reduction strategies. 

Research new components and suppliers, and engage with design engineering and project management for evaluation and/or prototypes.    

Prepare reports and updates as and when required.

Alignment with accounting for timely supplier payments (cashflow), assistance  with invoice processing and supplier onboarding when needed.

Work with legal for supplier risk (evaluation of supplier terms and conditions), supplier Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and general supplier onboarding.

Collaborate with the Purchasing Manager(s) to develop and implement ideas and strategies to enhance operational efficiency, aid business performance, and work toward continuous improvement

Assist in achieving financial targets and cost-reduction initiatives, including savings targets.

Ensure compliance to company and project guidelines, policies and procedures and represent TAIT at all times with high moral standards.

Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self, staff and visitors and communicate those policies and procedures to our suppliers.

Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform the essential responsibilities, individuals must have the following level of education and experience, or equivalent combination. Additionally, the following certifications, knowledge, skills, or physical requirements are necessary for the position.

  • 2-5 years of experience as a Buyer
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience working with an ERP or MRP system. TAIT currently uses Epicor.
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing practices, competitive bidding, negotiation, and commercial understanding
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or business is preferred.
  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or other industry certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Epicor, Slack, and/or Box a plus
  • Communication skills which include, but are not limited to, written and oral communication, active listening, nonverbal communication
  • Dependability, responsibility, and consistency in job performance
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel, if required.
  • Flexibility with work schedule. Normal work schedule is forty hours per week; however operational demands may necessitate other schedules to meet business needs

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to frequently walk, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, stoop, and kneel each day. Specific requirements are:

  • Must be able to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift or move 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to pull or push 50 lbs.

Work conditions of the role are:

  • Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, safety toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the location.
