About the role
Rosewood Design Studio, a boutique custom millwork and cabinetry shop in the Bronx, is seeking an experienced Cabinet Maker to join our team. This is a hands-on role for a seasoned craftsperson who can fabricate, assemble, and install custom kitchens, closets, and built-ins at a high standard. You’ll work across veneers, hardwoods, and laminates, and should be fluent with modern hardware/mechanisms and field installation best practices.
What you’ll do
• Fabrication & assembly: Build custom casework and millwork to drawings/CAD, maintaining tight tolerances (clean reveals, square/flat, true to spec).
• Materials: Work confidently with veneers, hardwoods, plywood, MDF, and HPL/laminates; edge-banding and veneer layup familiarity expected.
• Hardware & mechanisms: Install and adjust European hinges, slides, and specialty mechanisms (Blum, Salice, Hafele, Hettich, etc.) including soft-close, lift systems, and organizational accessories.
• Installations: Field-measure, scribe, and install kitchens/closets/built-ins plumb/level/square; coordinate on site with GCs/other trades; protect finishes and manage punch.
• Shop equipment: Safely operate panel saw/slider, edge bander, boring/doweling equipment, routers, planers/jointers, sanders, and hand tools (Festool track saw, Domino, etc.).
• Quality & documentation: Read shop drawings, verify cut lists, dry-fit assemblies, label components, and maintain shop/van organization.
• Safety & housekeeping: Follow OSHA and shop safety protocols; keep a clean bench and floor.
Must-have qualifications
• 10+ years professional cabinet making / custom millwork experience (shop and field).
• Proven expertise assembling/installing custom kitchens, closets, and built-ins.
• Strong knowledge of veneers, hardwoods, laminates, and corresponding joinery/adhesives/finishing prep.
• Proficiency with European hardware and specialty mechanisms; precise adjustment for reveals and alignment.
• Read/interpret shop drawings/CAD; measure accurately (metric & imperial) and work to tight tolerances.
• Field skills: scribing, shim/blocking, seam control, and finish-level detailing in occupied spaces.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to lift 75 lbs and work on ladders as needed; reliable commute to Hunts Point.
Nice to have
• CNC experience (programming or operation), dowel/confirmat/lamello systems.
• Finish knowledge (pre-cat lacquer prep, touch-ups).
• OSHA-10/30; NYC jobsite experience (COIs, building rules).
• Basic English for site coordination; bilingual a plus.
Schedule & pay
• Schedule: Monday–Friday (day shift); occasional overtime/site hours as required.
• Compensation: $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience.
