Job Description

SUMMARY: Fabricate wooden racks, shelving, and boxes for retail stores and packs such items as machinery or other large or odd shaped products by performing the duties listed below. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Build displays for stores and custom store fixtures · Operation of woodworking machines and use of hand tools to cut, shape and form wood · Prepare and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, designs, shipping notices, and other specifications · Purchase and maintain appropriate levels of inventory on all supplies needed to run the shop efficiently to include but not limited to: wood, screws, nails, saws rails, drills, blades, paint, and signs · Custom build pieces in an efficient manner · Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines · Inspect product to determine size and shape of container, wooden racks, and/or boxes; materials needed; and determine type of supports/braces to be used · Lay out dimensions on materials with ruler, measuring tape, and molds · Saw materials to size · Assemble materials, wood cutting, spraying, and painting · Place products in containers · Bolt heavy pieces to bottom of container · Wrap and pad products with excelsior, wood shavings, paper, or other packing material · Build crate around large or odd shaped articles · Nail covers on crates · Attach identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on crate · Repair broken crates · Count items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders · Move containers to shipping area, and move lumber, paper, and other wrapping supplies to crating area · Determine tools and saw blades needed to be sent off-site to be sharpened or replaced · Maintain machinery, tools, pieces, or bits · Assist with special projects such as painting and building repairs in the plant · Build custom office furniture such as desks, tables, bookcases, and shelves, etc. · Receive shipments of lumber and unload using a forklift · Practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite · Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of safety principles and practices; follow all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment · File paperwork efficiently · All other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: · High school diploma or general education degree (GED) · Previous carpentry experience required · Knowledge of building materials · Knowledge of basic tools, hand tools, and cabinet tools · Strong written and verbal communication skills · Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily · Forklift certified Must Maintain a clean driving record REQUIRED SKILLS: · Able to read a ruler and measuring tape · Able to use a table saw, skill saw, jig saw, power drill, router, sander, and other shop tools and equipment · Able to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policies, blueprints, job orders, and procedure manuals · Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization · Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals · Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions · Attention to detail · Able to work well alone · Able to maintain regular and punctual attendance PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: · Able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl for long periods of time · Able to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms frequently · Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 100 pounds occasionally · Able to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus · Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts · Regular exposure to various temperatures, dusty, and humid conditions · Noise level is usually moderate Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $20.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) • Dental insurance • Employee discount • Health insurance • Life insurance • Paid time off • Vision insurance Work Location: In person
