The CAISO Policy Manager will be responsible for oversight and management of AES' policy positions and relationships for the CAISO market. The role will take the lead on state PUC/PSC filings and policy positions in key western US states. They will assist in the establishment of corporate strategies, policies and plans that align with regulations, and policies in the West markets where AES is present or intends to develop projects, working closely with internal stakeholders to potentially shape and influence the development of existing and new industry policies.
Additionally, the Manager will identify potential policy changes or modifications that may benefit the business and communicate those to internal teams to assist in developing strategy. A key function will be maintaining and nurturing relationships at regulatory bodies and their staff, associated authorities, committees, and other partner organizations. This person will have a strong understanding of AES's assets and products and be a capable communicator and team player.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Lead AES's policy and filing priorities in the West with RTO/ISOs and state PUCs
- Liaise with other AES teams (Development, Origination, Markets and Operations) to understand policy impacts to conventional/renewable projects and clean energy products
- Develop regulatory positions and strategies to promote priorities and offset potential roadblocks to development and new products
- Work with appropriate associations or NGOs to further AES's regulatory work
- Hire and manage regulatory consultants to assist policy priorities
- Lead on development of regulatory priorities, relationship management and communications with AESCE Strategy Team
Requirements:
- A proven leader of people and excellent communicator
- 10 + years of experience in regulatory policy or with an ISO
- A Bachler's degree and/or relevant ISO experience preferred
- Experience in the energy sector with a preference for all Generation technologies including renewable energy experience
- Strong experience and proven skills in understanding the regulatory process at state, RTO/ISO and FERC, CAISO experience preferred
- Exceptional analytical skills in understanding policy impacts to energy development and pricing
- Communication skills: ability to develop and deliver concise powerful messages verbally, in writing and in presentations

The expected salary for this position is between $116,000 (minimum) and $170,000 (maximum). Factors that may be used to determine final salary offered include relevant experience, skills, location, qualifications and other factors, consistent with applicable law. This position is eligible to receive an annual bonus.
