Job Description

As a valued leader on the team, you will manage a team who produce insights, new product or change recommendations, process improvement or automation, and predictive modeling for parts of projects, programs, or products. You will develop the team's skills in data mining and data analysis methods, large data processing techniques, and computational programing capabilities, as well as problem-solving and communication skills. In this role, you will manage the coordination with the data engineering and data management teams, and external or created data sources to apply data mining techniques in preparation for analysis or use of enterprise data assets.

The Capital Markets Data Science Manager (Hybrid) role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinate team activities with product and/or business owners, data engineers, and platform teams to understand business needs and current capabilities, data availability, and alternative uses to drive success of parts of projects, programs, or products.
  • Ensure application of statistical modeling capabilities from disciplines, such as computer science, computational science and methods, statistics, econometrics, data optimization, and data visualization.
  • Build predictive analytic capabilities within the team to enhance the delivery of business applications, and support the integration of data and statistical models or algorithms. Apply innovative industry practices in research and testing to product development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Oversee the design and build of new modeling applications to support risk measurement, financial valuation, decision making, and business performance for parts of products or initiatives.
  • Ensure the team communicates complex ideas and solutions effectively to business partners through data visualizations, technical documentation, and non-technical presentation materials.
  • Coordinate a team to provide tactical insights to the Capital Markets teams quickly through expertise in Fannie Mae's huge public and proprietary databases
  • Develop statistical and predictive models to inform new policies and decision making
  • Work with junior members of the team directly to help develop their technical and analytical skills
  • Build shared understanding with our partners in Capital Markets, help identify pain points in their work, and build solutions that alleviate those pain points
  • Uphold high standards for quality and accuracy in analytic

Minimum Required Experiences

  • 6 years

  • Skilled in presenting information and/or ideas to an audience in a way that is engaging and easy to understand
  • Experience gathering accurate information to explain concepts and answer critical questions
  • Skilled in the graphical representation of information in the form of a charts, diagrams, pictures, and dashboards with programs and tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Experience helping an organization to plan and manage change in effort to meet strategic objectives
  • Experience in the process of analyzing data to identify trends or relationships to inform conclusions about the data
  • Communication including communicating in writing or verbally, copywriting, planning and distributing communication, etc.
  • Determining causes of operating errors and taking corrective action
  • Programming including coding, debugging, and using relevant programming languages
  • Adept at managing project plans, resources, and people to ensure successful project completion
  • Collective capabilities for leadership, including leading teams, giving feedback, facilitating meetings, and coaching and mentoring
  • Experience defining and managing changes to documents, code, computer programs, websites, and other files to enable collaboration and ensure teams are working from the latest version
  • Expertise in using statistical methods, including: developing and testing hypotheses, using experimental design, and running linear and logistic regressions
  • Product Development including designing products, developing product roadmaps, translating design requirements, prototyping, etc.
  • Influencing including negotiating, persuading others, facilitating meetings, and resolving conflict
  • Ability to frame ideas as systems and analyzing the inputs, outputs, and process
  • Experience evaluating businesses, projects, budgets, and other financial entities or instruments to determine viability, stability, and performance

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct and manage analysis to address complex business problems

    • Experience in the process of analyzing data to identify trends or relationships to generate business insights and inform conclusions about the data
    • Expertise in visualizing data to identify, summarize and explain observed data patterns
    • Experience with Version Control Software
  • Experience helping an organization to plan and manage change in effort to meet strategic objectives

  • Management experience including leading teams, giving feedback, facilitating meetings, and coaching and mentoring
  • Skilled in cloud technologies and cloud computing
  • Experience defining and managing changes to documents, code, computer programs, websites, and other files to enable collaboration and ensure teams are working from the latest version
  • Skilled in presenting information and/or ideas to an audience in a way that is engaging and easy to understand using graphical representation of information in the form of a charts, diagrams, pictures, and dashboards with programs and tools such as Excel, Tableau, R Shiny or similar
  • Expertise in using statistical methods, including: developing and testing hypotheses, using experimental design, and running linear and logistic regressions
