About the Role
Pursuit is hiring a Career & Leadership Manager who will be charged with coaching and developing Fellows to build the career and leadership skills necessary to break into the tech industry and to establish a successful career in this field. The majority of this role will be coaching and providing feedback to Fellows on career and leadership skills and topics, designing and delivering instructive workshops to these same Fellows, and creating and running opportunities for networking and industry readiness, building their personal brand, and preparing for job readiness and beyond.
As the Manager of Leadership and Career Success you will:
- Design and facilitate workshops, sessions, and student-facing resources on a variety of professional skills and personal development related to job applications and the job search, including resume writing, cover letters, behavioral interviews, networking, company research, negotiations and more.
- Support the Fellow learning experience and overall success in the program by helping them identify their career goals, work on their personal areas for development, and by staying on track with all requirements for the Core program in order to be job ready.
- Ensure all Fellows complete the program with a network in the tech industry and job-ready application materials (including: resume, cover letter, interview skills) through group workshops and one-on-one feedback and coaching.
- Work collaboratively with the larger instructional team and the Fellow Success Lead to escalate Fellow concerns and implement, document, and monitor Fellow-facing support plans for struggling Fellows.
- Own and update the Core LMS, internal wiki, and gradebooks for all industry readiness and leadership and personal development curriculum.
- Prepare and coach Fellows for major externally-facing Pursuit events such as Hackathons, Tech Showcase, and Demo Day as these are networking opportunities.
To be considered for the Manager, Leadership and Career Success position you should have:
- 3 - 5 years professional experience in the tech industry, ideally in a role with coaching/adult professional development, Team Manager, or Human Resources (Recruiting, Learning & Development, Talent Management, etc.)
- A developed perspective of what it takes to successfully land a job in today’s job market as a junior software developer, including knowledge of the tech industry landscape and job market, ideally as part of the hiring process (hiring manager, recruiter, HR team)
- Experience creating excellent content, and delivering objective-driven presentations and sessions to large groups of people.
- Ability to give constructive, actionable feedback to people of all backgrounds, in writing and verbally.
- Data-driven and outcomes-oriented; comfortable using systems to keep track of large amounts of data and progress to goals and identify opportunities to collect feedback on work.
- Ability to inspire and motivate individuals from different backgrounds, as well as to hold adult learners accountable for program-wide expectations and responsibilities.
Where you’ll work:
- Hybrid/Long Island City, NY
- Staff will be working on site in our Long Island City Office 2 days/week beginning in March 2023.
Compensation:
$75,000 - $100,000
The range above is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
