Job Title:Case Manager, Alumni Program Reports To:Alumni Program Manager Position Type:Full-time, Exempt Annual Salary:$53,000.00 Posting Date:July 3, 2025 Closing Date:July 31, 2025 General Description The mission of InsideOUT Writers is to reduce the juvenile recidivism rate by providing a range of services that evolves to meet the needs of juvenile offenders, both during and following their incarceration. Using creative writing as a catalyst for personal transformation, these young people are empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully re-integrate into our communities, becoming advocates for their future. InsideOUT Writers (IOW) leads two innovative programs for youth and young adults who have been impacted by the criminal justice system. TheWriting Programhas historically led nearly 30 weekly and bi-weekly creative writing classes for youth incarcerated inside Los Angeles County juvenile detention facilities. As a complement to the creative writing classes, theWriting Programalso convenes annual Writers’ Retreats and publishes In Depth, a quarterly literary journal of students’ writings. TheAlumni Programprovides a continuum of care to Writing Program students who have been released from detention, offering an array of re-entry programming and services to support their transition back into our communities. Recently, IOW has expanded its services to at-risk youth, foster youth, and youth in the LA County diversion system. In 2022, InsideOUT Writers introduced our third innovative program, theYouth Diversion Program. In partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Youth Development (DYD), IOW is responsible for the coordination of individualized, developmentally appropriate interventions for Youth who come into contact with law enforcement or are at risk for further involvement with the criminal justice system in Los Angeles County. Referrals are made by the DYD, local law enforcement agencies, courts, the District Attorney’s Office, or Probation of youth under the age of 18. Self referrals are not allowed under contract. Most recently, IOW launched theReentry Action for Youth (RAY) Program, also in partnership with DYD. The RAY Program offers direct reentry services to formerly-incarcerated youth and young adults between the ages of 12-25. These services are provided by RAY Mentors. IOW seeks an innovative, resourceful and effective Case Manager who possesses strong initiative, sound judgment and constructive interpersonal skills. The Case Manager must possess superior communication skills, both verbal and written. Time management, flexibility and the ability to multi-task are essential. Under the direct supervision of the Alumni Program Manager, the Case Manager will be responsible for providing case management services to our systems-impacted populations that will include formerly-incarcerated youth and adults. The ideal candidate would have built a career in Case Management and come to this position with an understanding of the profession’s best practices, along with a collection of contacts and references that will benefit the Alumni Program. This individual should possess or effectively develop a strong working knowledge of the services and community resources available to this underserved population, as well as a general understanding and knowledge of the juvenile justice system. Responsibilities and Duties • Provide trauma-informed and strengths-based case management and counseling services to IOW clients including at-risk, high-risk, currently and formerly incarcerated, and foster youth populations • Conduct intake interview and needs assessment with client to ascertain both their short-term basic needs, as well as their long-term goals for educational, professional and personal development • Prepare an “Individual Action Plan” for each client, which identifies the steps necessary to reach his/her/their desired goals, as well as a timeline and benchmarks; monitor progress; re-assess/update, as necessary • Provide appropriate services and/or referrals to community resources for housing, education, workforce readiness and job placement, health care, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and much more • Provide effective workforce readiness training and job placement services to get individuals into full-time jobs for at least a year • Recruit new clients to IOW through community outreach efforts, visiting incarceration facilities, working with partner organizations and networks, and promoting our Alumni Program • Provide leadership, direction and motivation to interns • Develop and maintain alumni case files in accordance with program policies and procedures • Maintain alumni database and case files, including coordinating with colleagues, service providers and alumni to obtain accurate information and complete required reports in a timely manner • Facilitate alumni recruitment and teacher or partner agency referral process • Identify and manage partnerships with “Ex-Offender Friendly” Employers • Submit monthly updates/report as directed • Monitor service providers/agencies to which alumni are referred to assure a high level of quality service • Support the Alumni Program Manager, Programs Manager, and Chief Development and Operations Officer in building partnerships with key community partners to provide quality services to alumni • Coordinate and supervise weekly programming in the office • Facilitate program orientations, trainings and meetings, as needed • Assist with special projects and fundraisers • Attend Board, staff and volunteer meetings, as needed • Actively participate in relevant trainings and conferences to develop professional skills • Communicate effectively regarding issues related to case management of alumni • Other duties as assigned Qualifications • Masters in Social Work or related preferred. Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent of lived experiences • 5 years + demonstrated years of experience with a proven track record in working with at-risk, foster youth, juvenile or adult incarcerated populations in the position of Case Manager, Social Worker, or equivalent • Able to pass Los Angeles County Probation and other CA State background checks for access to detention facilities • Demonstrated self-starter with excellent organizational and time management skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal management and staff, as well as volunteers, constituents, Board members and representatives from the public and private sectors • Ability to work independently using sound judgment and problem solving skills • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and respond to a variety of requests • Strong team orientation and demonstrated ability to thrive in such an environment • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Internet research • Knowledge of existing programs available to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated youth, as well as current challenges and issues faced by this population • Proven ability to quickly assimilate information to develop and implement solutions that address needs of constituents, service gaps and resource constraints • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) arestrongly preferred. • Night and weekend hours may be required. • Valid California Driver’s License – Class C and car insurance; driving to juvenile facilities and service providers will be required. • Must pass Los Angeles County background and fingerprint clearance.
