The Category Manager is responsible for cost savings, supplier management, and sustainability of the assigned category and actively supports product life cycles. Area of responsibility is North America, and may be as broad as Global.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for all supplier relationships within the assigned category as aligned with cross functional stakeholders and supplier segmentation.
- Develop and execute a category strategy that aligns with commercial strategies and financial targets
- Collaborates with product management, operations, and engineering on the development of Request for Proposals (RFPs), Request for Quotations (RFQ's) and leads the screening and supplier selection process
- Maintains personal knowledge of market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers, cost structures and technology.
- Responsible for the negotiation, development and maintenance of vendor agreements.
- Lead critical negotiations as required.
- Manage supplier relationships to drive performance, contract effectiveness, collaboration and integration.
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with key vendors within the Category.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal customers and other functions to ensure continuous improvement and strategic alignment.
- Advise Management on a continuing basis regarding: category cost trends, material availability, alternative materials; make vs. buy options, and supply base situations.
- Assure proactive linkage and required reconciliation of category strategy to the related product management strategies, savings funnel, and purchasing activities
- Support the development of purchasing teams and buyers
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Procurement/Purchasing, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering or similar discipline
- Minimum 5 years of progressive supply chain/purchasing experience with at least 3 years of category / commodity management experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects across several manufacturing locations
- Strong knowledge of various category and currency markets
- Project management problem solving skills
- Demonstrated supplier management skills
- Ability to foster cross functional and cross business collaboration
