Summary
The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) maintains facilities and personnel in 10 countries.
The purpose of the position is to serve as confidant and primary backup to the Cemetery Superintendent, fully sharing in the direction of all phases of the Cemetery's program and work.

Qualifications
Language Requirement
Because 16 of our 26 sites are in French-speaking countries, proficiency in French is a requirement for final selection for all of these positions. The Agency may correspond with applicants in French throughout the application process. Applicants will be evaluated by a third-party testing facility prior to interview to determine their proficiency in speaking and reading French using the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale. You should be prepared for a language evaluation immediately upon consideration. A minimum score of ILR speaking 2+ / reading 2+ is required to qualify. More information on the ILR scale is available online. If you are selected at the minimum score(s), you may require completing a language training program and/or re-test as a condition of continued employment.
Proficiency in languages other than French (particularly Italian, Dutch, Arabic, and Spanish), while not required for selection, should be indicated on your application.

Specialized Experience: For the GS- 13 level: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12); or its non-Federal equivalent that demonstrates:
leading geographically dispersed teams of various sizes, mentoring others; assisting with the preparation, management and execution of a budget for a program or organization; monitoring expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs; establishing short or long term goals for a program, project, or initiative; planning, coordinating, and executing business functions and resource allocations; engaging in speaking events; and preparing or delivering oral presentation; effective team building and cross cultural leadership by fostering a sense of collaboration between field staff and leadership; working leader providing hands-on guidance; experience and ability to manage a variety of complex situations.

ACTIVE-DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: In accordance with VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011 (Public Law 112-56),Current military members may apply by submitting a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214.
