General Summary 
The Character Design Intern will gain valuable hands-on production experience and training by working in collaboration with our skilled professionals. Interns are supported and challenged as they benefit from renowned stop motion animation expertise. Specifically, the Character Design Intern will assist in the exploration and creation of character designs under the supervision of Creative Leadership. 


Job Functions
 

  • Assist with creating 2D designs of full body characters, including detailed character turnarounds, posing and expression sheets. 
  • Assist in researching anatomy of characters and relevant costume/styles for reference in final designs.
  • Explore character design elements and develop the attitudes, personality and poses of specific characters.
  • Assist in creating color blocks and character paint for practical and CG characters.  
  • Assist with creating limb, hand, and feet style guides to inform practical and CG character builds.
  • Assist with creating character design elements and reference (faces, body shapes, hairstyles, and costumes) to feed the CG character background character pipeline.
  • Assist with designing templates for character turnarounds and drawovers.  
  • Participate in review sessions and incorporate Director’s notes.
     

Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in college, or graduated within the last 12 months, with a focus in Animation, Film, Fine Arts, or other relevant areas of study. 
  • Excellent drawing skills, ability to produce character poses, expressions and character turnarounds.  
  • Strong understanding of the principles of animation and design.  
  • Knowledge of Photoshop. 
  • Understanding of anatomy and facial musculature.
  • Ability to adapt to unique styles and designs.
  • Ability to take direction and embrace change with a willingness to listen, learn and do.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills, attitude and work ethic.
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work both collaboratively and independently.

Salary 
$15.45/hour set rate, non-negotiable.
