Your Role and Responsibilities
This position is for a hardware developer performing materials characterization on IBM products. Working with other scientists and engineers the candidate will use techniques such as Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS) Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and other techniques to analyze fundamental properties and failures of materials. The candidate will communicate those results in a written report as well as a presentation if needed.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• A bachelor’s degree in Materials Science Chemistry Physics or equivalent is required.
• 2 or more years of experience is preferred.
• Functional knowledge of one or more of the following analytical techniques: Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS) Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).
• Familiarity with wet chemistry and the associated necessary safety measures.
• Good written and oral communication skills of technical subject matter.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
• Masters or Doctorate in Materials Science Chemistry Physics or equivalent.
• In addition to the required skills above a highly competitive candidate will also be familiar with one or more of the following skills: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS or ESCA) Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) or any other associated analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of Synthetic Chemistry Toxicology Corrosion or Semiconductor device physics are a plus but not necessary.
