Charging Product Engineer - Embedded Software

Job Description Summary

This role will expand the BorgWarner Morse Systems' eProduct development talent and capabilities in support of the EV DC Fast Charger product line for North America. Product development could include internal development initiatives and collaboration initiative with external partners and government bodies such as the US Department of Energy. The Product Engineer will report to eProducts engineering manager.

The Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for software architecture development and debugging from ideation to production. They are required to have expertise in real-time control and rapid implementation for prototype development on an accelerated timeline. The ability to make critical design decisions and drive the project from beginning to end is critical. Responsibilities also include design, documentation, and design validation aligned with a rigorous engineering development process.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Software architecture development, execution, and debugging
• Documentation in requirements management tools
• Develop tests to validate functionality (unit test, SIL, etc.)
• Documentation of relevant product specifications in accordance with internal standards and external standards in preparation for certification or homologation
• Follow a rigorous BorgWarner engineering development V cycle process
• Support robust DFMEA, and DVP&R development
• Be a product lead in the lab during prototype builds, test, troubleshoot, or teardown throughout the product development and validation

Based in Auburn Hills, MI with travel to sister sites and to customer sites in Europe or Asia. Required to be primarily on location with the ability to work from home on a part time basis.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
• 5-10 years of experience in Automotive Industry, with focus on HV & High-power systems
• Expertise in real-time control and rapid implementation
• Automotive, electric vehicle sector and technology products experience
• Understanding and application of the product lifecycle
• Microsoft Office core competencies in Word, Excel, and Power Point
• Solid written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications - Core Competency

• Master's degree
• C, C++, CAN, higher level languages (Python)
• Familiarity with Git/versioning
• Static analysis
• UML modeling
• Experience with common communication buses (e.g., CAN, SPI, UART, Ethernet)
• Exposure in connectivity architecture using Wireless (Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC), and wired (Ethernet) interfaces
• Demonstrated ability to make critical system-level design decisions and drive projects from start to finish
• Previous system level engineering experience for electrical and mechanical systems.
• Prior experience with EVSE and battery products
• Battery charging knowledge beneficial
• Analytical problem solving, critical thinking, and hands-on approach
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Knowledge and experience with Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) development process for electronics and software a plus
• Knowledge and experience with Functional Safety according to ISO26262 a plus
• High Voltage Safety Experience / Training
• Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
• Ability to work and keep constant communication with globally located engineering team
