Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Chemical Process Engineer with expertise in process engineering to support design, development, and operability of Kairos Power’s first chemical production facility. The Engineer would first partner with a contract firm to develop a detailed design that would proceed for construction. The Engineer would then partner with a diverse team of both internal and external teams to support building, commissioning, and training of operators to enable facility operations in order to deliver a molten salt heat transfer fluid.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for process design that balances safety, cost, and operability
  • Identifies areas of process risk which can leverage in-lab process development
  • Support managing budget and schedule for the chemical plant and associated
  • Develops and organizes Standard Operating Procedures with partnership from internal teams, such as operations
  • Develops process training to support on-boarding new operators
  • Supports other engineers and process specialists on each of the phases of a project
  • Mentor other engineers on practical considerations associated with process engineering including operability, best practices on safety, and relevant code requirements
  • Interface with internal and external customers as needed
  • Publish engineering reports documenting design details or qualification test results
  • Maintain knowledge of and assess compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Develop production cost models that can be used for company financials
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field 
  • Eligible for P.E. Eng status in any state is desired
  • 7+ years relevant experience in mining/metals industry is desired 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to articulate process issues and recommendations on a study report
  • Broad experience across different chemical processes
  • Familiarity in process commissioning, operator training, and plant operations
  • Handling practices with toxics (gases, bulk solids, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience as a technical mentor

  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
  • Handling of Beryllium (Be)

  • Requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines occasionally
